There Will Be No Later

Today was the day.
Today the little imps came over, and I had to watch them.

Mum was rushing around the house, trying to get ready before my auntie arrived.

"Sweetie, do you mind finding my purse for me?" Mum called from upstairs.
The clash that soon followed came from her shoe rack falling over, and the tumble of shoes coming down the stairs.

I word, that if I had said it would have gotten me into so much trouble, came soon after.

I get up from place on the chair, and place my book, Cinder carefully to the side.

Her purse was on the kitchen counter, objects spilling out onto side: her phone, keys and lipstick rolling about. She must have placed it there and forgot it in the rush.

"It's down here mum! On the counter!" I shout up the stairs- shouting was much easier then walking up to tell her.

I was about to sit back down, and get back to Prince Kai when the door bell rang and the noise began.

"But I don't want to stay with cousin India!!! She doesn't let me go near her stuff and doesn't let me fight her." I heard Alfie whine from behind the door.

Great.

They were here.
If I just ignore it, maybe they'll go away.

"India! Get the door!" Mum shouted, aspirated.

Sighing, I stand up and answer the door.

"Hiya India. How are doing? How's school? Have you got good grade? Of course you do. With all the books you read. You must be the smartest in the class!" My auntie talks at such fast pace, answering her own questions, and already herding the twins inside the house.

It was obvious where the twins got all their energy and excitement from.

"Well anyway, it was really nice seeing you India, but I've really got to go. Look after the twins! Say hi to your mum for me. Tell her I send my love. Bye."

Then she was off, already turning back to her car and driving off while I shout bye at the already retreating vehicle.

That was my auntie. Talks fast, goes fast, doesn't stop.
That's the only way she's be able to keep up with the twins.

"India! India! Can I see your room? Will you let me play with your stuff? I promise I won't break anything." Alfie asks, bouncing up and down.

Surprisingly, Olivia, the other twin stays silent.
This was new.
Normally she'd be wheedling to play in my room like her brother.

"Maybe later, but right now, how about we watch TV for a little bit?" I say.

There will be no later.

"Okay. What TV shows do you have?"
I pass him the remote and let him flip through the kid channels.

Olivia just silently sits and clutches her hands together.

"Are you okay Olivia?" I ask, genuinely concerned for her.

She just nods her head.

"She's fine," Alfie says,"Mum says she's getting very shy."

Shy?
Olivia?
Part of the twins.
The two least shy people I knew.

Wow.
It really had been a long time since I saw them.

The clatter of heels running down the stairs signalled my mum was ready and coming down.

I grab her bag of the counter, stuffing in her phone and keys.

I hand her her bag and lipstick as she walks through the door.

She says a quick hello to the twins, Alfie grunts a hello back, engrossed in his show, and Olivia stays silent.

We both share an incredulous look over her silence, then get back to moving about.

Mum grabs her coat off the rack, stops only for 10 seconds to apply a quick wipe of lipstick in front of the mirror before the door and then is opening the door.

"Bye all. Love you all!" She shouts before shutting the door and clicking her heels all the way to her car.

Now I have to hope the TV keeps them entertained until their mum comes back at 7:00.

I look at the clock and see the time- 7:30.

I was not going to survive that long.

After watching the TV for an hour, Alfie had already started to get bored, and was pestering me to see my room.

I kept telling him later until I finally just decided to let him go.

I was about to give the green light to go destroy everything I hold dear, until my phone beeped.
A text.
From Hunter.

It felt like it had been so long since we spoke.
It really hadn't though.

'Can I come over? I need to talk to you about something important.'

Hunter wants to come over?

Well, I had already seen his house. Correction- mansion.

I text him back.
'My little cousins are over at the moment. They're a bit of a nightmare, you sure you want to come over?'

'Sure. I love kids. I'll be there in a bit.'

I turn to face the kids, smiling.

"What are you smiling about? Who was that on the phone? You're boyfriend?" Alfie questions.

"Something like that." I answer back.

"Kids, we've got a friend coming over."

Okay.
So I haven't updated.
In basically a year.
Oops.

I'm really, really, really sorry.

I haven't wrote anything in a while, bar the short excerpt on my other book.

I've not really done much writing, or had much inspiration and so I'm really sorry.

However, today I decided I wanted to do June NaNoWriMo, and while deciding what to write, I thought about continuing After Cassie.
And then I thought about this book.
I checked when I last updated and realised just long it had been.
So I re-read everything I had previously wrote and then wrote this.
It's not very much, however I've decided to see this book through till the end, and I will finish it, no matter what.

So thank you, those who have read this and have continued to read it, even it seemed like it will never have an ending.

And also thank you for 6k!! Never had I dreamed so many people would read this. I was the happiest I had been when I saw 50 people had read it and now there are so many more!!

So THANK YOU!!!!

There will be more updates, they may be slow, but they will happen.
