I continued running, not daring to look behind me. Part of me hoped that he would follow, another hoped he didn't. And another didn't want to not see him there, to know that he didn't care enough to come get me back.
That part of myself was blaring so loudly at me, I had scared myself. I had barely met him and already he had my heart going up and down like a roller coaster.
I was so lost in my own thought stream, that I didn't notice when I ran into someone.
A strong pair of arms held me upright, stopping me from falling on my butt.
"Whoa! That was a close one."
I looked up and saw who had held me.
It was Zach.
He had a cute dimple smile, and his eyes were shining."Yeah, I know. Sorry I wasn't paying much attention to where I was going."
I giggled, surprising myself.
I never giggled."India!! Wait please! Hear me out. It wasn't what it looked like."
Sure, you just fell onto her lips, and got superglued there by fairies.
Okay, that sounded weird even in my warped, twisted brain."No, I don't Hunter."
My voice low and mournful.
"Please, let me explain."
My heart broke at the sadness in his voice.
I almost forgave him.
Almost.
Then I got flashing images of him and Kaitlyn, and that settled the ice back in my heart. This is why I don't fall in like with people. Or love.
In the end everyone just gets hurt, no matter if it is the happiest relationship on earth, things go wrong.
Just look at my parents."Hey, what's going on here? India are you okay?"
Zach asked, his dimpled smile gone and replaced by concern and worried."I'm fine, I just need a few minutes alone."
I said, trying to keep myself level and calm, hoping my voice didn't sound as cracked as it felt."India. Please! Just two minutes and I can explain."
I hated arguments, and his puppy dog look made me agree for some strange reason."Can we talk in a more private setting then?"
Hunter asked, nodding at Zach who still held me in his arms.I looked up at Zach and shook my head, telling him it was okay for him to go.
"I'll be over there if you need me."
He said, glaring a Hunter."You have two minutes. Go."
"I was annoyed. At you-"
He started."Ha!"
I scoffed."India, I can't explain if you interrupt me."
I sighed, but kept my mouth shut.
"I was annoyed, because you said the kiss didn't mean anything to you. Kaitlyn was just there, and she was a distraction. I don't like her in that way. I am so sorry India.
I hope we can still be friends."I sighed again, already knowing that I was going to forgive him. I was a softie.
"That was the girliest speech I've ever heard."
I say laughing. The relief on Hunters face was evident, and I was happy that I had made that happen.
I was still slightly miffed that he had kissed that Shark Kaitlyn, but I enjoyed his company and didn't want to lose him so soon."So, friends?"
He asked, his voice still holding a slight worry, as if expecting me to suddenly change my mind and never speak to him again."Friends."
I say, meaning it.Half a second later, and I was engulfed in a big bear hug, struggling to breath.
"Hunter, I'm kind of dying here."
I pant out."Oops. Sorry."
He didn't look sorry, he just had a crazy manic grin on, like he had just one the lottery or something.Zach came back over a few minutes later, and starting talking about some rugby game on the TV.
I was bored, and besides, I had a shark in a blood red dress to go talk to.
