Thinking

Meilin.

It was the one thought that haunted his mind.

Was she okay? With Kovo? With Conner and the parasite? How long would Conner last? Would it be long enough?

"What are you thinking about?" Tasha asked from the floor.

They were on the Redcloaks ship sailing for this 'Place of Desolation'. Shane had said they were going there but didn't say anything more.

"What are you thinking?" Tasha, the summoner of the great swan, Ninani asked again. Now she sat on the wooden planked floor and tossed a peice of half-stale bread to the swan. She looked up from her and peered curiously at Rollan.

"Nothing much." He lied sitting up. "Nothing important."

"Tell me."

"It's nothing." Rollan insisted.

"Tell me." Tasha pressed.

Rolls sighed. He knew it was no use. Tasha was as inquisitive as ever and always knew how others were feeling. A power enhanced by Ninani.

"Just thinking."

"About what?" Tasha asked tossing Ninani another peice of bread. "Meilin?"

"What? No." Rollan said looking everywhere but at the girl.

Tasha grinned. "Meilin it is. I could tell by the way your face looked." She giggled.

"Aw, come on she's inquisitive and deceptive isn't that enough?" He asked the swan who was attempting to chew the oversized half-stale bread chunk. She looked up at Rollan and her eyes seemed to be laughing at him. She honked and returned to trying to tear the bread into smaller pieces.

"Abeke and LaReimaja were right about you being the jokester." Tasha said shaking her head slightly.

"You should see me on daily bases." Rollan sighed laying back down on his cot.

"With Meilin?"

Rollan thought for a second. Was it with Meilin? Was that regular?

"Well when we are at the saving the world and about to be under attack I guess." Rollan shrugged.

"Oh. Isn't that now? We could be attacked by Zeirf anytime." Ninani looked at Rollan abandoning the bread as to say 'she's got a point'.

"Not exactly-"

"So with Meilin then?" Tasha interrupted.

"Well-"

"And being attacked any moment to, right?"

"Ok!" Rollan shouted jumping to his feet. "Ok already!"

Tasha blinked in surprise and looked down at Ninani ashamed. Steadying his breathing, Rollan calmed down and sat back down on his cot.

"Sorry." He mumbled.

"I am too." Tasha said quietly

"I'm just distracted-"

"By Meilin?" Tasha perked up. Rollan gave her a look and she looked down again.

"I mean, go on." Tasha said quietly.

"As I was saying, I'm just distracted. That's all." He paused. "By Meilin."

Tasha grinned slightly at him. "You like her don't you?" She asked with renewed curiosity.

Rollan could feel himself blush hoping Tasha didn't see. Unfortunately, with Tasha enhanced abilities it was impossible for her not to.

"She sounds really cool. I've heard about her." She hesitated. "I heard she hated you though." She said quietly. Rollan blinked, surprised but didn't say anything.
