Spirit Animals: Saving The Evertree

Healing

Rollan groaned in pain and in stiffness. He had been stuck on a cot for the past two days not able to do anything but sleep, read and ache. Now that Meilin was gone too, he had even less company. Conner visited frequently but it wasn't the same.

He laughed as he thought if Meilin again. How he should've known. As soon as she got him off her hands she would go running underground to save the world. That girl just couldn't sit still. While Rollan on the other hand had to sit still. No movement whatsoever. So boring. Suddenly be felt a sharp pain in his stomach. It burned and spread causing his to yelp. Essix screeched. The bonds must be stretching again. Rollan thought. Care takers and nurses swarmed him.

"Oh no." Rollan loved attention but not this kind. "I'm fine." He said once the pain left.

"What happened?" His nurse asked.

"It was just some bond staining." Rollan said. "It happens to everyone with a spirit animal bond because of the dying tree." He explained. Everyone nodded in understanding.

"Ha! Another greencloak thing!" A patient laughed.

Rollan had to grind his teeth to keep for retorting as the patient's caretaker and nurse went over to shush him. Rollan stretched. He really missed moving. He actually wanted to do work now. No wonder Meilin couldn't sit still. It was so boring!

"Hey Rollan." Conner was standing at the side of his cot.

"Hey Conner." Rollan mumbled.

"The bonds were straining." Conner said uselessly.

Rollan nodded. "I know. I felt it. So did Essix."

Conner just nodded dumbly. He had checked in him about an hour or so ago so Rollan didn't know why he was here again. Probably just trying to get his mind off his leg and Meilin.

"I'm so bored." Rollan groaned.

"Well I could go get you something if you want." Conner offered.

"Nah, I just want to run around." Rollan shrugged.

"Oh." Conner nodded knowing he couldn't do a thing about that.

"Your leg is healing Rollan. Can't you tell?" The nurse asked.

"I guess it hurts less." He replied flatly.

"Here I'll show you." The nurse said starting to unwrap his bandage.

It indeed had healed a bunch since yesterday. The wound was much shallower and there was close to no blood. "We won't have to bandage it anymore." The caretaker said walking over.

"And you'll be able to start trying walking around." The nurse added. "So when it's completely healed, it won't be to hard to adapt to walking again."

"Yes!" Rollan cheered.

Conner smiled. "I guess I'll leave you to it then."

Rollan nodded and Conner left. Briggan padding beside him.

"Try standing." The nurse instructed.

Rollan happily swung his legs over the side of the cot and rested his feet on the ground. He hesitated before putting his weight in his leg. He was held up by the nurse and caretaker before he could even feel the pain in his leg.

"Let's go." The nurse said nodding to the door. They began to lead him out. He limped between them not bothering to ask where they were going.

They walked to the main room where he had stayed and up the stairs to he deck. How good it was to get fresh air! If felt like being set free from prison. He felt so good!

"Ready Rollan?" The nurse asked.

"Huh?" He just realized they were talking to him.

"I said we're going to let you try to walk okay?" She repeated.

Rollan nodded. The caretaker let go a walked a couple feet from them. "Walk to me." She directed.

"I'll follow you incase you fall." The nurse said from behind him. She let go too and Rollan was in his own.

The pain stung in his lower leg but he ignored it. Like he had done before when the were battling in the war of the second Devourer. It worked. Even though it stung he took his little steps and made it to the smiling caretaker.

"Good job!" She said holding him. "Now walk back to the nurse."

The nurse had walked back to her original position and Rollan walked back and fourth.

After a while the nurse said they had to go back and he had to rest so they headed back to the infirmary.

"We'll keep going until you heal." The caretaker said lightly massaging his stinging leg. "Then you and your friend Conner will be able to go after your other friends."

Rollan just nodded and smiled to himself. He was healing and soon he would have a mission of his own.
