Spirit Animals: Saving The Evertree

Close Call

Trapped. They were truly trapped. Meilin thought as she paced the space in the cavern. They were directly under the Evertree's decaying roots and trapped in a cavern. The tunnel collapse behind them and there was no other way out. A dead end.

"There's got to be a way out." Meilin said frustrated as she paced.

"I know. It does seem bright in here." Tokoda was saying as he and Kovo signed back and forth.

Conner sat in a corner with Briggan and Jhi asleep.
This couldn't be as hopeless as it seemed. The others would find them...eventually. She wondered if they would ever make it out.

"Hmm?" Conner shifted from his sleep. Meilin turned. Dirt was crumbling from the cavern ceiling and falling. If this continues. Meilin thought. Soon the Evertree would collapse too!Oh no. It's going to collapse. On us.
"Conner! Wake up! We have to get out of here!" Meilin shouted shaking Conner from his sleep. Conner's eyes blinked open.

"Huh?" He asked sitting up.

"We have to some how get out of here. The cavern is crumbling."

"Look!" Tokoda shouted and pouted to a spot above Conner and Meilin and their spirit animals. It was a shovel tip. The metal end of a shovel was stabbed into the earth causing the dirt and a small root section to crumble and fall on them.

"This is our chance out." Meilin whispered blocking her face with her hands. She and Conner scooted away from the hole and watched as the hole grew and sunlight poured in.

Meilin had to squint her eyes to see as the bright light filled the cavern. She forgot how bright the sun was. Finally, whoever was digging stopped and a voice called out above them.

"I think it's good! There's some sort of cave down there!" The voice said.

"Ok. Now what?" Said another voice that sort of sounded of Rollan. She shook her head. Focus. She scolded herself. It couldn't be Rollan.

"Shane, come look." The first voice called.

Shane? What was Shane doing up there? Was he there to set the Wrym free? With conquerors? Meilin's fists clenched. They would have to fight there way out.

"Good job." Said a voice that must have been Shane.

"Do we go in?" The familiar voice asked.

"I'm guess." Replied another voice which also sounded familiar.

"You go first." Said the first voice.

"Ok..." the first familiar voice replied.

Okay so they are approximately 5 people up there so one for each of us... and Kovo and Briggan have to fight one to...we should be able to get through. Meilin thought to herself. Then we just run? No that'd be hopeless. Well if there are only 5 of them...then we could push them in here once we get out and cover the hole so they'd be trapped and we'd be safe! Yes!

"Get ready." She whispered to Conner and Tokoda as she reworded we plan in her head. Kovo even took a battle stance as Briggan growled. A foot stepped through. A familiar shoe. Could a shoe even be familiar? Meilin  thought as she got into a crouch her knuckles white from clutching her half quarter staff as the figure lowered itself down. The figure plopped down and Meilin flung her quarter staff at it in surprise. Her staff flew straight and true but missed it's mark by millimeters and stabbed the dirt and a dead root right next to the figures head. The figure's eyes were wide staring at her. She stared right back. The figure was a tall and lean Amayan with dark hair and brown eyes like hers. Rollan.

"Meilin!" He smiled. "Your safe!"

She just gaped at him.
