Chapter 1: The Monster

I hear the stupid alarm clock buzzing loudly to left to me. I turn to the opposite direction, curl up under the blankets and try to block out that stupid freaking clock, but apparently I’m not too good at ignoring loud and extremely annoying noises. I sit up, stretch and drag myself out of bed. I look out of the window and for a second and forget exactly where I am. Oh yeah I’m at Castles.

Yep, the Richard Castle. You probably know him, light brown hair, friendly face and of course big time, award winning writer. Castle and my Mom, Kate Becket, got married about a month or so ago and I was still getting used to the move. Ever since I was little my mom and I were on our own. My father didn’t stick around after I was born but I still was stuck with using his last name. Go figure.

I jumped out of the shower and started getting dressed. I wore a white tank top and jean shorts. Original I know, but wearing anything else in a New York summer might just kill you. Wait summer? “Shit!” I cursed out loud, then ran to my desk then grabbed the Calendar. Unfortunately, the calendar was buried under a mountain of school work I hadn’t gotten around to. Guess it’s too late now though. Mt. Algebra and Physics 2 crumbled to the floor. “Damn it!” I yelled and squatted down to grab the paper.

A knock sounded at my door and I fell on my ass. “Who’s there?”

“Hey it’s Rick, you okay?”  I heaved a sigh of relief that it wasn’t my mother and got up then unlocked the door. He was about to say something then his jaw dropped when he saw the collapse of poor Mt. Algebra and Physics 2. “Someone had fun.” He laughed then squatted down to collect the papers.

Crap he’s going to see the homework! “Oh don’t worry about that, I’ll clean it up.” I rushed yanking him up before his knee could touch the floor.

“Hey it’s fine.” He escaped my grasp and started cleaning up. “This is a lot of paper, what is this?” he picked up a sheet and looked the work. “Velocity and Acceleration graphs? Is this unfinished work?”

“Yes it is, but I was planning on getting it done but it was the end of the year and I got distracted and by the time I knew it the year was over. Has that ever happened to you? Everything’s going fine, you stop to take a look around and then BAM everything passed you by and now you’ve missed a dead line. I mean it’s so unfair they should have given me more notice that all this crap was missing-“

He grabbed me by the shoulders and shook them slightly. “Relax. Don’t have a panic attack. You’re not in trouble.”

“Listen I’m so sorry I should have…wait I’m not in trouble?”

“No, it was the end of the year, and you got caught up in things and besides you passed and you don’t have to miss your senior year, which would suck.” He was still on the floor cleaning up so I got down on my hands and knees and helped.

“What’s so good about senior year anyway?” I asked after we had dumped the work in the trash bin in my room so that my mom wouldn’t see it.

“You kidding its senior year?!? You get more freedom, you’re at the top of the school every one looks up to you, wishes they could be you… and picking on the freshmen is fun.” He said with a cheeky smile on his face. I rolled my eyes and yawned. “What are you doing up so early anyway? Its summer you should be sleeping in.”

I sighed. “My stupid alarm went off and woke me up. I even started getting ready for school.” He laughed. “It’s not funny! being woken up early on the first day of summer is no laughing matter.” I stated, trying to keep myself from laughing.

“Well fine, I guess you’re right. I’d better get going your mom’s waiting for me.”

“Another dead body?”
