Chapter 19: Puzzles
We all were sitting in the privacy of our cabin listening to the recording trying to understand what we just heard. “What the hell is going on? Half the people that meeting had no idea about what I was… but the rest I’m not so sure about. Like Annabeth, Logan, Chiron and Connor. They all know much more than they should, but how? Chiron is ancient so the likelihood that he would meet someone like me is high. Annabeth Obviously knows from Chiron or Logan since they all seem pretty close. Connor wasn’t as close to either Chiron or Annabeth so he must be getting information from Logan. But Logan, that’s the part that makes no sense. How would he know what I am?”
“I don’t know but it definitely has to do with those four.” Dom said leaning back in his chair.
“We didn’t get nearly as much as we thought we would so what do we do now? Wait for the next meeting and send Mr. D in again?” Jake asked but even before he finished Clarisse was already shaking her head.
“No that wouldn’t work-“
“Why not? It worked fantastically the first time so why not go in for round two?” Max spoke up completely cutting off Clarisse. No one ever cut her off in mid-sentence unless they wanted their ass kicked. Lucky for Max he was new and only thirteen which gave him a pass at least for now. Clarisse gave him a cold stare that had max looking down at his shoes.
“Like I was saying before I was interrupted,” she started taking a slight pause to throw another glare max’s way,” It wouldn’t work for two reasons. The number one being that it would look suspicious if he sat in another meeting and Chiron might be a little more specific when swearing him in. The second reason is that there would be no way in hell he would do it again and if he would it sure wouldn’t be for free.”
“Well what would he make us do or pay or whatever? Maybe it wouldn’t be nearly as bad as we think it is.” Rene reasoned but Clarisse once again just shook her head.
“It’s Mr. D he already knows we’re desperate there’s no limit to the crap he would put us through just for his enjoyment.”
“Shouldn’t we at least try?”
“We can’t afford to.” Silence filled the room everyone trying to think of a plan. It’s amazing to think a few short weeks ago I didn’t even know these people existed and now they were risking everything for me.
“Thanks.” I said suddenly and all heads turned to me.
“Thanks for what?” Dom asked and I shrugged.
“For being there, for helping me with this. I know you didn’t have to and I just wanted say thanks.”
“Your welcome-“Dom started but Clarisse cut him off.
“You should be, but you should know that all of this isn’t just for you it’s for me. I don’t like when people hide information from me and I sure as hell don’t like when that involves one of my soldiers. This is to show them that no messes with one of my siblings without pissing off the rest of us.” She finished and I just couldn’t help but admire her confidence. My sisters awesome. “What?” she snapped and I wiped my smile off my face.
“Nothing.”
“Good, now what are your ideas on this?” she asked and I hid in my hair.
“I honestly don’t know it’s going to be nearly impossible to get Logan, Annabeth or Chiron to talk-“I started then was cut off by none other than max.
“That’s it!” he shouted excitedly
“What are you talking about Max?” Dom asked looking tiered. Since Max had showed up at our door Dom had been his unofficial guardian and boy was it a tough job. That kid was just like the energizer bunny, he just never stopped.
