 Chapter 9: Early Bird Special

“You are the absolutely the most spoiled, selfish, egotistical, self- righteous bastard I have ever met. I want absolutely nothing to do with you. You abused me, used me and I never want to see you again. I’m over you and we’re done. Everything that we’ve been through means nothing after this.” I glared at him letting him see all my rage. I sighed and pulled at my hair. Damn it. “How was that? Too dramatic, or I add more? Should I have thrown something?” My bird looked at me seeming completely confused and frightened. Fantastic I’ve traumatized my bird.

“I’m sorry bird, it’s just I have no one to talk to here but you.  Don’t take this the wrong way but the fact that you’re a bird and can’t talk back is seriously pissing me off.” I grabbed a glass of water, downed it then sat on the bed. “I’m a freaking mess.” I plopped down on the bed putting my arm over my eyes.  I felt the gentle nuzzling of a beak against my neck and opened my eyes. My bird had plopped down on to the bed with me, making sure I was okay. What a softy.

I sat up and started gently stroking his feathers he made a gentle purring sound with his beak. “You know we should probably get you a name right?” he bobbed his head and made a happy squawking noise; I laughed and started thinking of names.

“How about ‘Feathers’” I suggested. He shook his head. What a smart birdy. “Okay that was just to see if you were paying attention, now I’m really going to guess.” I thought for a minute before guessing.

“We’re going to get through the A’s first, alright.” He bobbed his head. “Let’s try for something Greek sounding how bout…Atticus?” He thought for a minuet but then shook his head.

“Okay how bout, uh, Ace? Ace is kind of a cool name?” he shook his head instantly this time. “You’re a very picky bird, you know that?” He made a loud squawking noise looking irritated.

“Okay, okay third times the charm how about….” I thought for a minuet thinking of a name I’m sure he’d love. “What do you think of Arrow?” I said smiling. He looked thoughtful for a minuet then made a really happy squeaking sound, I think it was happy. “Okay then Arrow, let’s see what everyone else is doing.” I whistled and Arrow jumped on my arm, seeming happy about his new name. I grabbed my weapon belt and put it on then grabbed the armor I’d been given. I’m all ready for a new day of being a demi god.

I opened my bedroom door, walked down the small hallway and went into the living room. Everyone was relaxing watching TV. Technically Technology besides swords and shields wasn’t aloud at camp half-blood, but somehow they managed to get a TV in anyway. I sat on the couch next to my brother Dominic. He had been nice to me since the first day and he was an easy person to talk to.

“How’d you sleep?” he asked slinging an arm around my shoulder.

“Fine, you?” I turned my head towards him.

“Not that well, had a nightmare.”

“That sucks.”

“Tell me about it.” we were silent for a few minutes just watching some action movie someone put in before I remembered Arrow.

“Oh, I finally named my bird!” I said smiling.

“And what name did you give your lovely vulture?” he teased, and I punched his arm

“Arrow.”

“Not bad, it’s good to you smile you haven’t been all that happy the past few days.”

“I was fine.” He looked over at me giving me the ultimate ‘don’t bullshit me woman’ look. “Okay fine I had a few crappy days but I’m feeling better now.”
