Chapter 17: In the Dark

“This isn’t going to work.” Clarisse said as we all started walking to the big house. Everyone was nervous and I didn’t blame them, since this is probably the dumbest plan in existence. But like someone famous said at some point “The line between stupidity and genius is very thin.” Or was it insanity? Well either way it was stupid enough to work.

“It’s going to be fine, you have nothing to worry about.” I sighed and kept walking.

“Nothing to worry about? It’s insane, stupid, and the worst thing that we could possibly come up with.” Rene hissed and I rolled my eyes.

“Try to be positive.”

“Kind of difficult to be happy and freaking positive about our untimely deaths.” Finally having enough about people bitching about my fantastically insane plan that will totally go off without a hitch, I whipped around.

“Well do you have any better ideas?” everyone stayed silent and looked at their shoes. “That’s what I thought, now stop complaining you all agreed that this is what we should do so just shut up and go with it.”

“But what if-“Rene started but I cut her off.

“What if it doesn’t work? Well, if it doesn’t we’ll just have to think of something better to try. But today this is what we’re doing. Okay?” they all nodded in unison. “Good let’s keep going.” I’m starting to get why Clarisse likes being in charge. Yelling at people is kind of fun.

“You’re going to tell them you’re not feeling well right?” I asked Clarisse and she nodded. “And since Dom has ‘the flue’ he can’t go either so they’ll have to have the meeting without a representative from the Aries cabin. It’s perfect.”

“That’s not the part that worries me…” Clarisse said and looked at her.

“Your nervous about the second part.” I said and she nodded. “Why?”

“He’s unstable and there’s no telling what he’ll do to us if we ask for his help.”

“That’s why we’re going to bribe him, it will put him in a better mood….hopefully.” I said adding the last bit quietly. We walked the in silence for a few minuets, lost in thought. I swear to god I heard Jake ask Rene if she had her will in order. Great.

“This better work, it’s going to be ten times harder to try to get information after this once they know we want it.” Clarisse threatened.

“It’ll work.”

“So, you say.”

“So, I know it will work….if he doesn’t screw us over. What do you think of our chances?”

“Of what?” She asked

“That he’ll screw us over?” she thought for a minute before answering.

“I don’t know maybe 50/ 50, maybe less than that”

“It’s better than nothing.” I said and she shrugged. God this better work or they’re going to kill me, painfully. We walked the rest of the way in silence. The closer we got the more nervous I became and the fact that everyone questioned me on our way here wasn’t helping matters. We all stopped at the steps and looked up at the porch. It was homey looking but the entire house needed a little work. Some of the blue siding was peeling off the large house and the porch was due for a new coat of paint.

“Can we still change our minds?” Rene asked softly and Clarisse and I turned to glare at her. “Never mind.” After taking a deep breath we walked up the old creaky steps then I reached out to open the door. As soon as my hand touched the door knob it was ripped open by none other than Connor Stole who looked scared to death to see me.
