Maybe I really needed a friend. Maybe I just couldn't keep that damn promise. Why did I even promise that to Lucy. I already know nobody can replace her but just why? Why Michael suddenly wanted to be my friend? Why am I still thinking of this?
Today is the 31st of December. It was still snowing and I kind of liked it. I haven't heard about Michael since Christmas and I kind of missed him. He ain't even my friend what the hell is happening with me? Mom and dad were still sleeping. I was awake, in my bed, enjoying the warm feeling and thinking about Michael. But why him? I slowly got up and went to the kitchen. Everything was ready, tonight everybody was going to celebrate the New Year. I wore a pair of flip-flops and opened the main door. Outside was freezing cold. A snowball almost hit me. I pulled back and started searching with my eyes for the one who threw the snowball to me.
“I'm sorry.” I heard a kid from the next door.” I didn't mean to I was just playing with my cousin and accidentally I threw it to you. I am so sorry... “ He said with his innocent voice. I smiled and nodded.
“Tyler come back here!” I heard a familiar voice. It was Michael. Oh my god I had totally forgotten that he lives next door. Maybe this little kid was his cousin or his brother.
“Do you want to come and play with us? “ He said and I smiled weakly at him.
“I don't feel like playing in the snow right now. Maybe another time.”
“But please, please, please it will be much more fun with you!” He said begging me to come. I opened my mouth to say something before Michael came.
“Tyler I said...oh hey Scarlett!”
“Hi.” I greeted him quickly.
“Mike can she play with us please? Mike please tell her, please?” Tyler started begging Mike and he looked at me confused. I raised both my eyebrows not knowing what to do.
“Will y-you come and join us? Just this time Arlie? For Tyler? Arlie?” He called me Arlie. I froze for a moment and shook my head. It will be just a little game Scarlett, just a little game. Just relax.
“W-well fine…” -I said stuttering.
“Yay Mike, you're the best cousin in the whole world!” Tyler said hugging Mike. It was so cute, seeing him having a little kid with his hands wrapped around his waist.
“I'm going to change because as you see I'm only in my pajamas. Be right back okay? “
“Promise?” Tyler said and I froze. That word sent shivers through my whole body. I slightly pushed the door open and then turned to him.
“Promise.” I said smiling and went in. At least I was sure about this promise I made, I was able to keep it. I went straight to my bedroom and wore a pair of tight jeans and a large long-sleeved shirt. I wore a jacket, a pair of boots and gloves. Mom had just woken up and was preparing breakfast.
“Morning mum.” I said running downstairs.
“Hey Arlie where are you going?” She said after kissing my cheek.
“Oh well Michael invited me to play with him and his cousin, all because of his cousin, he wanted me to play with them and listen I'll explain later. Mike...lives next door so don't worry. Love you.” I said opening the main door.
“Arlie wait, what about breakfast?”
“I don't have time about that.” I said closing the door behind me. Tyler was still playing with Mike who seemed pretty annoyed. His face lit up when I showed up.
“So you came. Thanks.” He said putting his hand on my shoulder. It sent shivers through my whole body. I shrugged and smiled weakly.
“It's been a long time I don't play like this. Since...she died I spent the whole time sitting in my bedroom and reading books. I have forgotten a little,” I said scratching my head and Tyler came to me.
