At this point I would be careless. Why? Because it was only me and him and it felt great, it was great. I wish the time would stop at some point and the world around us would disappear. I just wanted to be left alone with him, be happy with him.
“Let me protect you Scarlett.” He whispered as we both sat down by a tree.
I felt tears streaming down my face, falling on his shirt.
“Sh, panda don't cry.” He said hugging me tighter.
“But it's unfair...” I managed to say between tears. “I keep getting in trouble, you can't always protect me Mike.”
“I will protect you little panda you know, because I...I...” he stopped. I lifted my head up so I could look at him.
“You what?”
“I love you Scarlett, you're the one I care most about, you're a miracle! You made me feel love again, you are more than a miracle to me, you're the most important thing in my life. You're more than a best friend to me, you're a friend, a sister, and... more like a girlfriend. You keep making me happy everyday, and I just can't stand seeing you cry, seeing you hurt. Do you get me Arlie?”
I was shocked and happy at the same time. Butterflies were dancing in my stomach and I felt like hugging him tight and never letting him go. And so I did. I got closer to him and hugged him tight.
“Mike do you remember when we first talked? You gripped my wrist and it started bleeding?”
“Yeah, I wish I never did that. I'm such an idiot Arlie I...”
“Sh, since that day everything changed. And I thank god everyday that you're here, that someone finally dared to be my friend and changed my whole life. I made a promise to Lucy...on the Christmas eve, that I would never let anyone change my life. I broke that promise. And you know why? Because I really needed a friend, I really needed someone to love me, to protect me and I...I really love you too Mike.”
Yeah I said it. You said it Scarlett yeah. Heavy breathing mode On.
“Scarlett look at me.” He said, his voice was shaking. “I love you Scarlett, I really do.”
“Me too Mike.” I said in a whisper.
We both leaned in for a perfect kiss, the third kiss I shared with him, but it was perfect and it felt like the really first. His warm lips touching with mine, moving in a perfect sync. When we pulled away he stroked my hair.
“Let's go home, maybe your parents are worried.”
“Will you stay at mine today? At least until 10 PM? We can watch a movie. And by the way what's with your homework?” I asked him "smiling innocently".
“Oh not again.” He said letting out a small laugh.
“Okay let's go then.” He added while getting up and helping me get up too.
We got in the car and he turned the radio on. A beautiful song came on, I didn't remember the title or the artist's name, but I had memorized very well the lyrics.
“Mike what's this song?”
“It's Things We Lost In The Fire, by Bastille.”
“Oh my God, why do I always forget the titles of the best songs on earth? God!” I snapped.
“You're too focused on homework.” He joked.
“I was serious about that, you're doing those homework. I'll give you mine and you will only read them, only READ!”
