Chapter Seventeen: Let's Do This
"Hey Michael?" Sam asked me while we were preparing lunch. "Do you think my sister Alice could come here sometime?" I continued scrambling the eggs.
"Do you think she would figure it out if she were here?" I asked him. Sam shrugged before he flipped another pancake.
"I'm guessing she's already figured it out, but doesn't feel like she has to say anything because it's none of her business." Sam told me. "I just want her to see that I'm happy here and that she doesn't have to worry. That and since I talk about you guys a lot, she wants to meet you."
"She could possibly come over here, but I don't think today is the right day." I told him. He beamed at me.
"Of course! I didn't expect her to be able to come over today." for the rest of the time we made breakfast, he had an intangible smile stuck on his face.
"Breakfast is ready!" I called up from the stairs that led down to the kitchen. I plated some food and handed it to the first person who showed up behind me. Rebekah took the plate from me, but not before giving me a chaste kiss on the lips. I followed her out of the kitchen with my food and into the library so we could sit down and eat. Before Rebekah had even put a bite of pancake into her mouth, her phone starting ringing. Eye of the Tiger blasted out of her phone. She sighed before dropping her fork onto her plate and placing her phone to her ear.
"Hello?" she said into the phone. "Dad? Slow down, slow down."
"I'm going to put you on speaker, okay?" Rebekah said. There was a couple seconds of silence and then Actaeon started to talk to us.
"My wife and the council decided the other week that it would be best to try and wipe your pack out." he said. "They're on the way to you now. Somehow they figured out about your safe house and they found a way to get in. You need to get out of there, now. Before they get there."
"We're not leaving." Charlie said. "I have had enough of these stupid hunters hurting my family. We're fighting."
"NO. No, you'll get yourselves killed. Please, let me help you." Actaeon said. "Rebekah, I can't lose you too."
Rebekah closed her eyes for a second. "Well you might have to." she said. I watched as she hung up on her father and turned her phone off so he couldn't call again.
"Okay, Sam take a car and get out of here. Go see your sister and your family. We'll call you once this is all over." Rebekah said.
"I'll leave once you guys go outside." he said.
"We'll meet the hunters outside of the main entrance. We need to be in a clearing, otherwise we'll get slaughtered. So do not let them take you into the woods. They are extremely strong, extremely fast. They have heightened senses just like we do. They use wolfsbane laced arrows and bullets. If you get hit, take the bullet or arrow out and keep going. Our body temperature will burn it off if the thing is out of you. Don't let them get their arms around you, they'll crush you. Just, be careful." I said.
"Charlie, I know this is asking a lot, but could you call Jared? We might need reinforcements." I asked her. She nodded and went to go call him.
"Who's Jared?" Rebekah asked me.
"Charlie's abuse ex." Aaron said. He went over to Sam. "Babe, I need you to leave as soon as we get outside. If you're still here while this goes down I'm going to be worried about you and then I'm going to get hurt. If we both survive this, we need to have a very important discussion about me changing you." he said. Sam nodded and went to go grab the keys to one of the cars.
Charlie came back from wherever she went to call Jared. "His second in command, Alex, answered. He said he'd round up a group to come help us. He also mentioned that he has some wolves that might want to permanently join us." Charlie said.
"Tell him that we'll think about it after this ordeal is dealt with." I told her. She nodded and started to tap rapidly at her phone. "Rebekah..." she shook her head.
"There is no way you're getting me to sit this out." she said determinedly. "Not in a million years. I know the risks. You guys are my family, and if they hurt you they hurt me too. I'm fighting with you, no matter what."
"I knew you'd say that." I said with a sigh. "Alright. Call your dad back and talk to him for a minute. It might be the last time you talk to him." Rebekah grabbed her phone and turned it back on to call him. He answered on the first ring.
"Hey dad," she said into the phone. "I know, I know. This might be the last time I ever talk to you. So I just want to tell you some things." she took a deep breath.
"I love you so so much, and I know you blame yourself for what happened to mom." she took a shaky breath. "But it wasn't your fault. It couldn't have been your fault. She was blinded by rage and fear and she screwed up. What my stepmother is doing is not your fault either. You couldn't have known she would go so crazy when given the opportunity to wipe out a whole pack. Don't forget to check up on Sam every now and then if Aaron or I die, okay? He needs a loving father figure in his life. Please, don't' do anything reckless after what happens today. You owe it to me, to be careful. Make sure that Clarence learns that what his mom taught him is wrong, and that life should be valued, protected. Like you always taught me. Make sure that whoever makes it out today is safe, and that if I die, I don't die in vain. I love you." she hung up, and wiped the tears that had fallen away.
"Let's do this."
A/N shits about to go down. but don't worry, this is not the end of Fearless. there is a lot more after this. if that's comforting, I guess it could not be cause that means even more shit happens later.
