Chapter Thirty-Three: Furry Butts
(Michael's Point of View)The she-wolf Caroline had been holding by the neck crashed to the ground after Caroline let go of her. Her brother ran at her and tried to get her to wake up as Caroline ran at me, a howl leaving her throat. I let Jared's head fall out of my mouth before she reached me. I swatted her to the side with ease. Then I turned around. She was pushing herself farther away from me as she laid on her back. Her ears were back, her tail jutted out between her legs. I towered over her and snapped at her neck, but not grabbing anything. I was showing her that I had the power to kill her, but I was not going to use it. Instead, I backed away from her and let my pack deal with her. They dragged her into the woods to finish her off. The ones left in the yard were Alice, the she-wolf, her brother, and myself. Alice changed back and picked up the boy, carrying him to the house. I changed and struggled to pick the she-wolf up. Even though she wasn't very big, human arms were very limited. I managed to pick her up. As I started to walk towards the house, the ground swooped up at me. My vision had black spots in it from blood loss and exhaustion. But I was determined to get her to safety. I pushed myself to keep walking. I got to the door, which was already open. I thudded through the house, my feet pounding against the hardwood floors. My blood felt like it was lead running through my veins. Every one of my movements was sluggish as I carried her to the kitchen. I set her on the counter carefully before I changed back and everything went black.

"Kole, quit crowding around him. He needs some air, you twat." A stern female voice said. I opened my eyes. A blurry face was stuck in front of mine. As soon as I lifted my head, my forehead hit another forehead hard. I fell back onto something soft. I groaned and put a hand to my forehead. "Kole, what did I just tell you?!" the same female voice exclaimed. My eyes were beginning to focus. A boy that looked around twelve was leaning over me. There was an excited twinkle in his eyes. Alice came over to my side.
"How you feeling?" she asked me. I took a deep breath and sighed it out.
"Like I just had to save some random wolf's furry butt." I said. The girl looked at her brother for a second. "Make that two random wolves." Alice rolled her eyes at me.
"This is Fawn and Kole. They were in Jared pack and decided to leave before the fight started. They were worried about Blue, so they were hiding in the woods when Caroline saw Fawn." Alice explained.
"Babe, I really don't care. What I want is some water and food. And maybe some ibuprofen." I said. Alice smacked my shoulder before she exited the room. Kole got off of my bed.
"Thanks for saving our furry butts." he said. I waved him off before sitting up. The girl, Fawn, was watching her brother, "I mean really. If you hadn't stopped Jared. We would both be dead. I would have been forced to watch Jared kill my sister." I looked over at Kole. He was standing at the side of my bed, his hands twiddling about as he stared at them.
"You're welcome." I said. Kole looked up at me and smiled a huge goofy grin. "Now why don't you go see what's taking Alice so long." I suggested. Kole scampered off happily. Fawn had moved her focus to me. "How old is he?" I asked her.
She crossed her arms over her chest. "Almost thirteen." she said. I nodded my head a little bit.
"And you're his only parental figure?" I asked. Fawn nodded. "How did that happen?" Fawn shifted on her feet.
"When my parents found out I had activated the stupid gene," she told me. "They left me in Northern Canada. Kole's family found me and took me in. Kole's parents were both killed by Jared's pack when he was on a raid. Jared forced us to join." Fawn said bitterly. "I changed my name when I met Kole. I wanted to keep them from this part of my life, but it didn't work. Anyway, I better go see what your mate is spoiling my little brother with." Fawn said and then she left. She reminded me a lot of my sister. Moments later, Charlie burst through the door with Luna on her hip.
"Michael! Thank god you're alright!" she squealed. She set Luna down on the unoccupied part of the bed before throwing herself at me. The hug was painful, but I knew she needed it. "The whole time I was gone I was so worried. I just kept thinking what if, what if, what if. Rebekah told me what happened. You are so brave." Charlie just kept going. Finally Luna cut her mother off by climbing onto me. I smiled and pulled the baby closer to me. "She wanted you the whole time we were gone." Charlie said with a smile. I looked up at her.
"Really? She wanted me?" I asked her. Charlie nodded.
"She liked your song." Charlie told me. I gave her a smug look. Luna snuggled her head into my neck and fell asleep. Charlie took out her phone and snapped a picture. Alice came in holding a cup of water and a pill bottle, with Kole at her side with some meat. Charlie was about to take Luna from me when I shook my head.
"I've got her. Go visit our new pack members." I told her. She mouthed a thank you and left the room quietly. Kole looked at Luna in awe before handing me the plate. I quickly cleaned out the plate and the cup. The pill was now half empty. "Kole, go find your sister. I think she's looking for you." I whispered. Kole nodded, saluted me and then ran out the room. Alice sat down on the edge of the bed and smiled at the sleeping baby.
"You did it," she said quietly. "You saved the pack."
