Chapter Thirty: Ready for The Worst

Alice gasped when she saw the scene in the kitchen. Actaeon was holding Luna in the living room, rocking her as he stood. He nodded in the direction of the kitchen. When I saw into the kitchen, the first thing I saw was the blood, and then the shattered glass. Charlie sighed as she picked up the glass from the floor. "I'm fine, really. It just cut my hands a little bit. We shouldn't we worried about this. We should be worried about the fact that Jared and his remaining pack members will be here by nightfall." Charlie said. Alice bent down to help her pick up the glass. "Alice, I can clean this up myself. Someone needs to get the pack over here." she said. Alice didn't budge and continued to pick up glass and toss it into the trashcan.

"Fix up your hands, then call Blue and have her gather everyone up. She can put Michael on speaker and he'll inform them about the situation. They'll be over here in less than thirty minutes." Alice told her. Charlie sighed before straightening out and rinsing her hands off under the cold sink water. I handed her some bandages and watched as she wrapped her hands up tightly. She grabbed her phone off of the counter and dialed Blue's number.

"Get everyone around the phone, Michael has an announcement." she said. Blue agreed and put Charlie on hold until she got everyone. Alice straightened out before bending down again, this time with a rag soaked in bleach. The blood seeped into the rag quickly. Alice had to get three other rags before the floor was rid of blood.

"Alright, everyone's here. Tell us what's going on." Blue said. I grabbed the phone from Charlie and put it to my ear.

"Charlie got a message from Jared. He'll be here at nightfall. I need everyone to get ready and meet over at the clearing house within the half hour. We'll have a pack meeting when everyone arrives. For now, I just need everyone to get over here." I said clearly into the phone. "And when you guys get here, you can meet Charlie's baby girl, Luna." I heard various 'aww's before I hung up.

"Did they say anything?" Alice asked me. I shook my head.

"I hung up before they had the chance to say anything. If one of them wants to say something, then they can contact me personally. They all have my phone number, and the home phone." I said. Alice rolled her eyes with a sigh. I handed Charlie her phone back. "We better get ourselves ready for the worst."

"Caroline, please." I begged. She held her head up high, her eyes not meeting mine. "Jared is insane! He thinks this is the best course of action, and really it's the worst." Caroline looked down at me.

"You bitch!" she spat. "You would do the same if you had a child, if the father took it from you and wouldn't let you be apart of your babies life, you would do the same." I flinched at her volume.

"Caroline, Jared is an abusive bastard who doesn't deserve to be responsible for another life, an innocent one at that. Do you honestly believe that he could be good for his kid?" I asked gently. Caroline stepped toward me, her shadow covering me.

"Don't you get it?" she whispered, surprising me with how soft she was being. She was furious a second ago. "He's doing this for me. He's getting his baby back, for me. I'm infertile, I can't have children. This is our only chance at having a heir to the throne that is being an Alpha." I understood now. Jared couldn't care less about Charlie's baby, but Caroline did. Caroline cared too much. She wanted a baby, and this was her only way to get one. Caroline whisked herself away, and this time she didn't leave me with any bruises. Kole peered around the corner, his dark hair sticking up everywhere.

"Is everything alright, sissy?" he asked me. He was in his bear onesie that he loved. He didn't care that the other kids in the pack made fun of him for wearing it, he loved it. I opened up my arms and he came running into them.

"Of course, of course everything's alright. I was just talking to Caroline." I told him. He let go of me. "You know what Kole? I need you to go grab your suite case and pack everything you need in it, okay? We're going to go visit Blue." I said. Kole grinned excitedly and ran up the stairs to go pack. Once I was sure he was in his room I hurried up into my room and pulled my suitcase out from under my bed and started to pack my clothes into it. Coats, long sleeved shirts, jeans, boots, converse, underwear. Everything I would need for the winter. Then I grabbed a couple books and picture frames and lied them carefully on top. Once I had grabbed everything from my bathroom I zipped up my suitcase and set it by my bedroom door.

"Kole? Are you almost done?" I called as I walked over to his room. I started to get worried when he didn't answer. "Kole?" I asked as I pushed open his bedroom door. I froze. Jared had my twelve year old brother in a headlock, a knife to his throat. Jared bared his teeth at me.

"Jared," I said calmly, my hands out in front of me. "Put Kole down." Jared shook his head wildly.

"You're leaving." he spat. "You're abandoning this pack when we need you most. We have a fight tonight that you have to apart of. You are not leaving." he dug the knife harder into Kole's throat. "I'll make sure of that." I stepped one step forward. Jared stepped back.

"Jared, please. I can't fight. Kole can't fight." I pleaded. Confusion flashed in Jared's eyes.

"Why can't you fight? You're not injured are you?" he demanded. I shook my head.

"Jared, I'm pregnant. I can't fight." I said, lying through my teeth. There was no way I could be pregnant. I already had teenager to take care of, a baby on top of that would be way too much for me. "Kole is only twelve, and he hasn't had any training at all. He would die if he fought with the pack." Jared looked down at Kole, then back up at me. He removed the knife from Kole's throat before shoving him at me. I caught Kole in my arms. Jared walked around us and out of the room.

"If I find out you're lying, I'll make you wish you'd have died in the fight."  he called from the bottom of the stairs. I breathed out a shaky breath and pressed my lips to Kole's forehead.

"Finish packing, we're leaving as soon as possible." I told Kole. He nodded and started to shove things in his suitcase. As he finished up, I stared out the window. The sun was low on the horizon. They would be going to attack soon. I hoped that Michael and his pack make it out of this alive. If they did, then maybe I'd consider joining his pack. I felt like Kole and I would be happy there.

A/N I felt like maybe it would be weird introducing so many characters right before the end of the book, but then I decided that I didn't give a fuck and was going to do it anyway.
