Chapter Thirty-Two: Dammit

My ears went back slightly. God dammit, I knew he would pick that one. The whole pack watched as Jared changed back into his wolf form. He was slightly intimidating big, even though I knew I was larger, even if it was only by an inch or two. Alice looked between Jared and me multiple times. I stared straight into Jared's eyes. I could still see his horrid smirk. 'Alright, I need everyone to form a circle around Jared and me. Make it big.' I ordered. Alice hesitantly left my side to join the circle wolves. I stood my ground as Jared's wolves joined my pack in the circle. Jared and I circled around a little bit, sizing each other up.

Now that we had engaged in the fight, we could only hear each other. Our pack's were left out of our conversation. 'You scared, little Alpha?' he asked me. I continued walking around and shook my head once. 'Good, fear smells bad.' he said. I rolled my eyes a little bit. Was he just trying to distract me? Or did he have an alternate motive for talking me up? I was totally confused. I knew he wanted to fight, but he was the one putting it off with conversation. Was it because his mate was watching? Was it because he was giving her time to look for Charlie among the circle? I shook my head slightly to myself. Focus. You need to focus. 'Your mate is very beautiful, you are lucky to have her.' Jared said. I narrowed my eyes at him and growled deep in my throat. What was he doing, talking about Alice. 'When I win, I'll be sure to take advantage of her beauty, maybe have her carry a child of mine.' at his words, I charged forward with a loud snarl.

I held my breath as Michael charged forward with a snarl. You could hear each individual snap of teeth when one of them tried to grab a hold of the other's neck. They were a mass of fur and limbs, growling and snarling. Michael pushed Jared away from him with his back legs and he fell back before righting himself on all fours. He snapped his jaw once before lunging again. My eyes were wide with fear as I watched them. I could hear the pack whispering to each other.

'Who is winning?'

'Do you think Michael can win?'

'What would happen if he loses?'

'That looked painful, do you think he's alright?'

I pushed their worries from my mind and focused on the fight. Jared had bitten down on Michael's neck and was shaking furiously. Blood flung at the circle through the air. Once single, tiny drop landed on my nose. Michael snapped his teeth down on one of Jared's paws and Jared loosened his grip, enabling Michael to get loose. He shook himself off and patted the ground with his front paw, pushing some dirt up in a small pile. With a growl that had me trembling, Michael launched himself at Jared.

Kole pushed himself in front of me. He stuck his head out of the bush. 'Why are they in a circle?' he asked me. I joined him in the bush.

'Michael is getting ready to fight Jared for the title of Alpha of the two packs.' I explained. I looked around the circle. I saw Blue, without Jace at her side. I felt a pang in my chest. Where is her son? Is he alright? I continued looking around. I saw Alice, who looked downright terrified. There was a Mark on her neck, and there was one of Michael. I almost smiled. Charlie was not among the circle. Well, duh. She was hiding.

'You are not allowed to watch this,' I said as I pulled Kole out of the bush and behind me. Michael was bleeding heavily. He growled before launching himself at Jared. Jared's eyes widened as Michael flew through the air at him. Jared and Michael rolled around on the dirt ground, teeth snapping and trying to find purchase on the other wolf. As they snarled and scratched at each other, a wolf stared directly at me. It was Caroline. Fury burned in her eyes as she ran around the circle and straight at me. I turned around to Kole. 'Kole I need you to get out of here. Right now. Go to the truck and wait for me there.' I told him. He was about to ask me why, but I shoved him away from me. He looked at me sadly before sprinting off, leaving behind a trail in the bushes. Caroline had reached me. She grabbed me by the neck and dragged me out of the bush. I tried to escape her grasp, but she was too strong. I was too weak. My feet slid against the ground as I tried to push myself away. It was no use. Caroline and I broke through the circle. Michael and Jared had stopped fighting for a second. Jared changed to his human form. Caroline held me in place with her sharp teeth in my neck.

"For those of you who are going to be new to my pack, this is what happens to traitors. This is what happens to those who disobey. This is what happens to those who are like your friend Michael. This is what happens to weaklings who don't know when to run away." Jared spat. I stared at Michael, pleading for him to do something. I knew that Kole had not listened to me. I heard him running toward me. I closed my eyes for a second and waited for the killing blow.

"Get away from my sister!" Kole screamed as he pushed himself through the circle. My eyes snapped open. I tried to tug myself away from Caroline, I tried to reach Kole. After they killed me, they would kill him. I gave Michael a pleading look. Kole crashed into me, his arms around my neck. "Leave her alone! Leave her alone!" he cried out. Both packs had fallen completely silent, just waiting for what was going to happen. I could feel my own blood leaking out of my neck. Kole was crying into my fur loudly. "Get away from her." he sobbed out. Jared clenched his jaw and grabbed Kole by his arm. He forcefully tugged him away from me. Kole screamed and screamed, but no one did anything to stop Jared.

"This is what happens when you interfere with Alpha matters." Jared said, as he grabbed a hold of Kole's neck with both of his hands. I saw the muscles in his arms clench. I waited for the pain crack that would be my destruction. But it didn't come. Michael jumped over Caroline and me, and knocked Jared to the ground. Kole got away unscathed. Michael's teeth were tearing at Jared's neck and head. Jared's screams were the most satisfying noise I had ever heard. With one sharp pull, Jared's head was dangling from Michael's mouth. Caroline let go of me and I fell to the ground. I could barely keep my eyes open as she lunged at Michael with a howl. Everything went black.
