Chapter 1: The Start

Bella

“You’ll be fine! You just have to get out of this funk you’re in! I mean yes, sure you have a job but you’re still living with me and I’ve never heard you speak of a friend or even a boyfriend! Heck, I doubt you’ve even had sex yet,” My mother, Sarah, exasperated.

“Mom, my personal life is personal, and I don’t see how being a counsellor for the next two months will change anything!” I argued as we walked over to my already packed car.

“You know the camp and you’ll get to meet new people instead of lounging around most days in my house! Maybe this will give you more confidence and then you’ll be able to move out like Alex and Marcus have done,” My mom tried to soothe as I got into my car.

“I’ll be counseling children, how will I meet any one?” I argued again, still not wanting to go.

“You’ll meet fellow counsellors and whoever is bunking with you now get going or you’ll be late, I’ll talk to you later,” She sighed then shut my car door. I waved goodbye then reversed out of the driveway in my beautiful car.

This is one of the worst things mom is making me do. I’m 22 for fuck sake! Don’t I get a say in what I do over the summer? I mean yeah she’s partly right about the whole confidence thing but its partly her fault! Let me expand...

From Sophomore Year I was bullied until I graduated High School because my mom decided to have sex with the school coach. Now it wouldn’t have been so bad if they did it in like a bed or something but NO! They had to do it in the coaches office and OF COURSE one of the most popular girls in school walked in and took FUCKING PICTURES! I got called ‘trainee-slut’ and shit like that all because my mom had to ‘get it in’ during school hours... So since then no one talked to me because of it and that just knocked my confidence out of whack.

When I graduated and went off to college I took a course in art and my career so far is designing people’s homes or drawing landscapes of like beeches and sunsets, that type of stuff. Although once I finished college I moved back in with my mom because ... I'm not so good with people I don’t know...

After driving for what felt like days, in which was only 2 hours, I finally pulled up to the summer camp. The camp was placed a couple of hours away from Stratford so it wasn’t too bad but still... I really wasn’t looking forward to this.

I got out of my car and shut my door making sure I locked it, before making my way over to the main cabin which is where the office is for you to sign in and the dinning hall for where you eat, obviously. I had been here from the age of 12 to 17 at not one summer did I come back with any friends...

“Excuse me,” I interrupted the slightly old woman who was working on the brand new computer. Everything around here looked new. Must have had the whole place done up.

“How may I help you, dear?” She asked and smiled.

“Uh I'm one of the counsellors and my mom told me to come straight to the front desk when I arrived,” I told the woman she nodded and smiled again.

“OK so whats your name?” She asked.

“Isabella Antoine,” I told her with a small smile. She then began to type something in on the computer.

“Ah yes, Isabella. You will be counseling the youngest group of children aged 3-4,” She smiled. I smiled too since looking after little kids is always fun. They’re just so cute and sweet!

“Your room is number 19 but its a little different to last years. There is a huge cabin for your group of children and there is a living room, shower blocks, toilet blocks, dressers and wardrobes for the children’s clothes, buck-beds for the kids and then there is another cabin with a few large rooms which is for you and the other counsellors. You get your own bed and then theres a shower room connected to your room,” She explained. I nodded to make sure she knew I was listening. This is completely different to when I was last here.

“Here is your key. Your kids will be here around 5 and then dinner is at 6 then there is a bonfire at around 7 and then its bedtime for your group. All the details str on these papers,” She smiled sweetly.

“So do I just go to my cabin or room?” I asked as I took all the information from her.

“Yeah go to your room, your fellow counsellor’s are already there. Turn out of here and turn left then look out for the counsellors cabin then go inside and look for room 365,” The women smiled warmly at me. I nodded and thanked her then made my way back to my car. It was only 3 now so I had time to get to know my ‘fellow counsellors’. There were many cars already parked so I'm guessing most of the counsellors were here, I just prayed to God that the other counsellor was bearable...

I unlocked my car and got out my two suitcases from the trunk. I swung my other bag over my shoulder and began to make my way over to my cabin.

“19, 19, 19, 19, 19,” I chanted to myself as I made my way to the counsellors cabin.

I walked up to the wooden door and pushed it open. I could here talking and laughter coming from down the hall. I shut the door and dragged my bags down the hall with me. I came to the door for which it says 19 written across the top. I take a deep breath in and open the door slowly.

Great.
