"How would you feel about going to Korea?"
I choked on my instant ramen. "Mom what?"
"Well it was his anniversary..."
I sighed and stood, stepping away from the counter. "Mom you promised. You promised you wouldn't bring him up again. You promised." I could feel myself getting upset so I took a deep breath.
My mom was a calm women so she understood. She smiled.
"You can't run forever. You have to face it."
"Mommy I'm not ready..."
"You are. You're just scared."
"His parents... wouldn't want to see me." I said staring at my feet. The thing I was most scared of was facing his parents.
"Actually they contacted me."
What?
She opened the kitchen drawer and handed me a letter. With shaking hands I took it. She pet my hair and kissed my temple.
"Think about it. I know you miss the ocean."
--------------
I stared at the letter too scared to open it. I didn't want to go to Korea. Not for that. If it meant I didn't get to meet Kim Namjoon... then so be it.
I got up from my bed and opened the closet across from it. I pulled down a gray box that held special and painful things for me. I pulled out the small notebook, one of many, that held lessons in Korean written in a child's hangul. I flipped to the backpage and pulled out a photo of all of us as little people playing on the beautiful busan beach bundled up in warm coats and sweaters. A painful smile touched my lips.
I couldn't face Jeon Jungkook. I just couldn't.
