Maya's POV.

I walked up the fire escape, up to Riley's window where I usually go through. Hmm.. that's weird, it's locked. It' never locked. I decided to just knock on the window lightly but there was no answer. I tried louder this time and Riley finally came to the window and let me in.

"Hey Peaches, why are you here?" Riley asked me.

I just sat there and looked at her. I don't have anything to say. What do I do?

"Umm i don't know, I just wanted to see you." I lied.

"Are you sure that's it?" she questioned me.

What was I thinking, Riley knows me too well, she can tell when I'm lying.

"Ok fine, it's my dad that's all"

"What's wrong with your dad, is he okay?" Riley asked.

"Oh yeah, he's just fine." I said getting a little angry, but calmed down.

"Okay... Then what about your dad" She questioned confused.

"Oh..he umm.... says hi!" I need to get out of here, she is going to figure out the truth. She's my best friend, but I just can't. She won't understand.

"Oh well tell him I said hi!" Riley said with enthusiasm.

See the thing with Riley is that we have the Riley committee. The Riley committee consists of Farkle, Lucas, and I. We try our hardest to keep any bad information that could corrupt her rainbow sunshine filled brain from getting to her. She has this faith in everyone. And just... We have to protect her. Over the years it's been getting harder to protect her. She's starting to figure things out, she's smarter now.

"I will" I said smiling back to her. We sat in silence till I spoke.

"Hey Riley? You know how we have a week break off of school in two days?"

"Yeah why?"

"Well maybe you, me, Lucas, Zay, and Farkle can all go on a trip, you know to relax a little"

"That sounds great! But where too?" Riley asked me.

"I haven't really thought that far ahead."

"What about Texas?" Riley said

"Why do you want to go to Texas?" I questioned.

"Well you know how Lucas said that he fell off Judy the sheep?"

"Yeah, I remember Ranger Rick's story. Why?" I said chuckling a little at the memory

"Well I was thinking, what if we got plane tickets to go to Texas and sign Lucas up for a rodeo so that he can do great and he won't be a disgrace to his family anymore!"

"Whatever you want" I told her. That's what I always told Riley because I like to see her happy.

"Yay!!! But we aren't going to tell anyone till our last day of school before the trip."

"Ok, my lips are sealed" I said then Riley and I spent most of the night looking for tickets to Texas and all of the planning so we could tell the boys about the trip in a couple days.

"Riles it's getting late I'm going to head home."

"Ok see you tomorrow Peaches!"

And with that I left, I really don't want to go home. What if my dad is there? What if he hits me again?

I walked towards my house and slowly opened the front door hoping and praying my dad wasn't home. I stepped inside and he was home. Just great.

"WHERE WERE YOU MAYA!!!!!" He screamed at me.
