How It All Began

Zay's POV.

Flashback to December 28th, 1879

I walked into the living room to see Jessica and Lucas making out.

"*cough* *cough*" I pretended to cough so that they would break apart from kissing.

"Hey, love birds, do you guys want to go out to Chubbys for a while?" I asked them.

"Yeah sure! Sounds like fun Zay." Jessica replied turning back to Lucas to give him another kiss. I rolled my eyes. That's literally all they do.

"Lucas?"

"Yeah I guess, let's go" Lucas replied, so we all got up and headed to Chubbys. But on our way there we saw a group of vampires in the woods talking.

"Is that The Phoenixes?" I asked. The Phoenixes, are the head vampire group in Texas and they also happen to all be siblings. They control everything and everyone around them. You would not want to get on their bad side. We try to stay out of their way as much as possible.

"Yeah it is... I wonder what they're talking about" Lucas replied.

We were all listening to Enzo, Levi, Oliva and the others talking about some Blood stone. I've heard about this stone before in some of the old books I've read. This is not a good sign.

"In two days we start, we gather everyone and split up. We need the big and the strong to do this. Tiff, you and Reina will be heading to the nearest jail. While Emilio and the twins go get the witch. You'll bring her here and if she puts up a fight, you remind her what exactly will happen if she backs out on us. The rest of you will be heading around the town to recruit more victims. I want you all back here at 10:00pm, so we can start. It needs to happen exactly at 12:00 or it won't work. It takes time to prepare, so don't be a minute late."

"Guys we NEED to get that stone!" I whisper yelled to Lucas and Jessica.

"Why? What does it do?" Jessica asked.

"I'll explain later, but all you need to know is that it's bad news and needs to be taken from them immediately. We can't let them go through with their plan." I told them.

"We are going to get ourselves killed." Lucas replied shaking his head.

"Yeah, well if we don't take that stone from them we will be dead anyways so we need to do this."

"Ok, so what's the plan?" Lucas asked.

"Jessica you go from the other end of the woods and distract them. That's when Lucas and I will run and grab the stone." I said.

"Alright, let's go."

We all got ready, and Jessica got to the other side and gave us the signal to go.

Jessica's POV

I can't believe we're doing this. But hey, you only live once right?

I crept around the corner so that I was right behind the Phoenixes and then I decided to run out of the woods and pretend to be hurt. Right before I stepped out of my hiding spot I bit my wrist and smeared the blood on my shirt and my forehead to look like I was in an accident.

"Help! Somebody help me please!" I yelled like I was in pain while limping out of the woods towards them

"Oh my gosh!" Reina yelled as she looked behind her at me causing the others to look as well

"What's going on?" Enzo questioned while walking towards me

"I was in an accident and I'm really hurt" I lied while pretending to wince in pain

"Everyone come here except for you two, you go watch the stone" Enzo said as he pointed at two of the other vampires, and while everyone was walking to me I glanced behind them to see Lucas and Zay approaching the
stone.

Zays POV

As Jessica distracts the Phoenixes, Lucas and I headed for the stone.

Lucas runs first and one of them sees him, so Lucas quickly rips out his heart and runs forward. I then run in and rip out the heart of the person guarding the stone when I start to hear Levi and Enzo coming, but before they could get us I grabbed the stone and ran off back towards the house.

"Where's Jessica?" Lucas yelled running behind me.

"Right here." She said running into the house. "Guys they seem mad! What are we going to do?" Jessica said freaking out.

"We need to hide the stone. They can't get it back."

"I know a great place at my grandmas house upstate. I can hide it there and come back." Jessica said.

"Are you going to be safe going alone?"

"Yes I'm sure, don't worry about me. Just keep yourselves safe here. I'll be back in no time." Jessica said kissing Lucas and running out the door.

Fast Forward to January 1st 1880

Lucas POV.

I was pinned against a tree, while Zay was pinned on the other.

"Tell us where the stone is, or you both are going to die."

"If you kill us, then you will never know where it is." I hissed in his face.

"Levi, he's right, we can't kill them... yet." Olivia said to Levi while pinning Zay harder into the tree.

"Hm... But Olivia honey, think about it. There are two of them. Not both of them need to live for us to find out where it is. The real question is, who are we going to kill first?" Levi said with a smirk

"You?" he said pointing to me, "or yo-" Levi was saying when someone pinned him to the ground.

"Huh?" Olivia let go of Zay and he ran over to me.

"Jessica?" I questioned.

"RUN!" She yelled at us. Then she got pinned down and stabbed with a stake to the heart.

"NOOOOOOO," I screamed.

"Lucas we need to leave. Now!" Zay shouted and we quickly turned around and ran.

As we were running I stopped and dropped to the ground crying.

"Lucas you need to get up! We have to keep running."

"She was the love of my life Zay! I never even got to say goodbye. She wasn't supposed to be back. We told her that we were coming to her, that we were going to keep her safe at her grandma's house. Why would she do this?"

"I- I don't know. But Lucas, we need to keep running. I know it's hard, and I know you loved her, but we have to run. We can start a whole new life in New York. Meet new people. Jessica wouldn't want you to cry and be upset over her and be upset for the rest of your life. Do this for her. Keep us and that Blood stone safe, or all of this was for nothing. Don't let it be for nothing."

I got up slowly along with Zay and we started running to get on a plane to New York.
