Glenn pulled out a long knife, skillfully hidden in his belt loop, and handed it to Enid. Daryl picked up his crossbow and watched the people in front of them for any signs of a trap or danger. When he found none, he signaled for Glenn and Enid to spread out and surround the group of about eight people.
Glenn thought of Maggie and wondered if she was okay back in Alexandria. The fastest way to find out would be to question these people. "Here we go," he thought.
Daryl caught himself wondering about Carol. Was she was okay? If those men had gotten to her, he would stop at nothing to get revenge. He gritted his teeth as he silently loaded his bow behind a large tree.
Carl and Judith were Enid's main concern. She worried how a helpless little girl could possibly fend off a group of strong men. "How would Judith take it if Carl did die? How would Rick take it?" she thought as she crouched behind a bush about 50 feet away from the blonde man wearing Tom's jacket. A tear slipped down her tense face as she pondered over the possible demise of her new-found family.
All of these worries motivated the three of them to push on and fight for their loved ones. As the depressing train of thought disappeared, Enid raised Glenn's knife and waited for Daryl's signal. The two fingers pointed towards the fire, and told Glenn and Enid to start attacking the group. Daryl's signal was like a gunshot starting a race to Enid. With her knife still raised, she advanced towards the group. Everything sort of slowed down for her. Each step felt like it took a year. When she reached the back of the man wearing Tom's jacket, she slid her knife in front of his neck, taking him hostage. She watched as Glenn came up behind a man across the circle and pointed his gun at the man's head. When she looked at Daryl, he'd already aimed his bow at a woman's skull. Of course, there was screaming and yelling. There always was. The other men and women in the group shoved guns in the trio's faces. The woman who had been seated next to Enid's captive fired her gun at Enid, missing horribly.
"Hey!" Daryl yelled. "All we wanna do is talk! So sit down!"
There was silence. No one moved a muscle. Slowly but surely, one by one, the other five lowered their weapons and sat down where they were.
"What do you want?" a woman next to Glenn asked with a grim face.
"We'll be asking the questions around here," Glenn barked.
"So, let's get the biggest one outta the way," Daryl scowled. "Where'd ya get those coats?"
An uncomfortable hush fell around them.
"We picked 'em up off of a couple walkers," Glenn's captive shook.
"Where?" Enid growled.
"Slow down there, little lady," Enid's hostage smirked, which just made her blade dig farther into his skin, drawing a tiny amount of blood.
He yelped in pain, making Enid smile a little.
"What were you saying?" Enid sarcastically said.
"Heh. This girl's got some nerve," the woman who shot at Enid remarked.
"Enough chit-chat, girls. Where were the walkers and how do we know you're telling the truth?" Daryl asked.
"Look, we'll show you. We just want to survive as much as you do," a guy, who looked about 19 or 20, across the circle spoke up.
"Shut up, Adam!" the woman with Daryl's bow pointed to her head yelled, making Daryl tighten his grip on his weapon.
"But we can survive this way, Deb!" the boy, Adam, protested. "We'll show 'em where they are. What is it to us if they wanna know?"
"The kid's got a point," Glenn said glancing over at Enid to make sure she was holding up okay.
After a short pause, the blonde man at Enid's disposal looked anxiously over at the woman called Deb, who was being held by Daryl. They gave each other a knowing nod, and the man spoke up.
"Okay. We'll take you on one condition."
"What's that?" Enid said in the man's ear, clenching the knife even tighter.
"You have to let all of us go. We'll answer the rest of your questions, too," he nervously said.
Daryl glanced over at Enid and Glenn to see if they agreed.
"Alright, but one wrong move, and all of you die," Glenn said, releasing his captive.
His captive heaved a sigh of relief and shakily walked over to sit down with the others, where he was welcomed with hugs. Enid and Daryl did the same, and both people were welcomed with the same response as the first man had received.
"Alright, enough of this sappy-sob story. Let's get this show on the road, and move it!" Daryl growled.
The blonde man stood up and helped he others up as well. With Deb in front, the group started off to find the corpses of the walkers. Daryl, Glenn, and Enid followed behind, ready at all times to kill anyone who made a wrong move.
