After he left I sharpened my favorite unicorn pencil and started working. It was around 5:30 when I texted Ethan saying "I finished all of my homework. :)" and went into the kitchen to find the strawberries. Ding! I smiled and went back to my phone reading the text.
"Let me see."
I took a few pictures and sent them to him and he replied a few seconds later.
"Good. You can watch TV now. I'll be home soon. I love you <3"
"Okay, I love you too!"
Sneaking a spoonful of ice cream and dipping it into the strawberries I walked outside to hear what was on the loudspeaker.
"Jade Padilla, please report to the dean's office immediately."
"Or whenever you're not busy-god Dylan can't you be professional for five seconds?"
I giggled and swung my bag over my shoulder, slipping into some leggings and flats and walking to his office. "Wonder what he wants..." I mumbled under my breath. I remember when I was dating Tom-I mean Calum, Michael and Luke would always get jealous that we spent so much time together. Was this the same way? Ethan and I do spend every day together, and he lined up our schedules so that we would hav evey class together. And I rarely see Dylan, except when he's shredding papers and eating lunch with Ethan and I. "Hey um, Dylan. You wanted to see me?" I asked nervously, walking into his large office. "Hey Jade. Yeah, so your calculus grade dropped a letter and a half and Martyn wanted me to check up on you. Is everything alright?" he asked and I sat down. "Oh, I got C+ on my last test and my perfect straight A record was badly damaged. I guess I just didn't study enough, but don't worry. I'm planning on getting back on track. It's totally under control." I explained. He laughed warmly and looked down, scribbling something on a piece of paper. "Usually in movies when they say "Oh it's totally under control!" everything falls apart." he joked and we both laughed. "But I trust you on this one, so study hard. That was all, have a nice rest of your day." he smiled. Wait what? "That's it?" I frowned. "That's it." he nodded looking down at his work. "Are you sure?" "Sure as Sue. Have a nice day." he chuckled. "Oh, um okay." I said and got up, about to leave "Were you expecting something ese? Cause I give the stupid the self-esteem talks when you're in trouble, not the suspension talks." "No not that, I was just expecting a "You're stealing away my best friend," "I wish you and him never got together," Kinda thing." I shrugged. "You make 'em happy Jade, that's all I want." I didn't know until a little while after, but that was the point where Ethan had snuck up behind both of us. Dylan looked up and past me and smiled, going back down again. "But, if you want a spiel, I'll give you one. Yes Jade, you are stealing Ethan away from me. It feels like I never see him anymore and when I do all he wants to talk about is you. But seeing him go on and on about you, it makes him happy. It's like he's been reborn. Like he's singing in the rain. Like his heart's on fire. I have been setting him up with girls ever since Danielle died, trying to get him out of of this funk that he's in and you are the only thing that's worked! You are the miracle that he's been needing! Ethan is cheerful and happy and carefree, and HAPPY! And that's all I want for him." "Really?" I smiled. "Yeah, really. So you can take up all the time that you want. Just try to leave some space for me okay?" "Okay. Thanks Dylan." I nodded and walked out, too sucked into my phone to notice Ethan leaning in the doorway. Walking back into the apartment I opened the freezer and took out the ice cream carton. Grabbing a small spoon I grazed the top and was about to eat it when- "What exactly do you think you're doing?" I turned around slowly and smiled weakly. "Eating my dinner..." "You mean this dinner?" he said and held up a bag of Chinese takeout food. "Mm, well I was gonna eat dinner after I tasted a little bit of my dessert." "Uh-huh, and how is that following the rules?" he said sternly. I sighed and put everything back. "It's not. I'm sorry I wasn't following the rules." I mumbled. "That's what I thought. Now go sit down and eat your dinner." he ordered and I took the bag and went to sit at the island, unwrapping the boxes. He walked into the bedroom and turned on the TV, and I could hear him putting the parental control lock on the PS4. I groaned and leaned back in my chair and he came back in the kitchen. "I'm not hungry." I muttered. "Well if you don't want dinner then I'd suggest showering and getting in the bed." "But it's only 6:30!"I whined. "Well maybe if you weren't trying to sneak ice cream then you wouldn't have to go to bed early." he shrugged. I glared and got up, opening the drawer and taking out a fork. "Okay, I'm eating." "Mhm." he nodded, "I'll be working in the bedroom. I want you to tell me when you're done with dinner so I can give you dessert okay?" he said. I looked up and grinned nodding quickly. "Good girl." he smiled, kissing my cheek and walking into the bedroom. "Thank you!" I shouted. "Just be good and follow the rules next time." he replied.
