"Oh, hi there," Imogen greeted us in a surprised tone, her brow slowly raising with accusation as her eyes traveled from you to me. She had that teasing glint flashing in her moss-green eyes that were sparkling with mischief and malice.
I sent her a subtle warning, knowing what she was about to do when you turned to smile at her, but she only grinned wider. "Hi, I'm Imogen. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure that you came here yesterday."
You chuckled, nodding your head. My heart started to race. "Yeah, it was raining cats and dogs last night, so I thought I could use some tea."
"Well, I'm glad you took shelter in us. I'm pretty sure Serenity here was pretty much pleased, too. Right, Ser?" She turned to look at me, a devious smirk playing on her red lips.
Caught off-guard by the sudden spotlight, I shifted on the balls of my feet and pushed my hands deep into my pockets. "Um... uh... sure?"
Imogen's ringing laughter came echoing throughout the now empty space of the café, followed by your light chuckles. And soon enough, even Kristoff who was earlier busy with the task of mopping the floors, was joining the fun too. I felt the beginnings of a blush bloom onto my cheeks, matching Imogen's auburn hair.
"Oh, she's just like that." She waved a hand. She turned toward me, a playful smile still playing on her lips. "Do you want me to set a table for the both of you?"
Before I could even utter a stuttered 'no thanks', you beat me to it, saying a cheery, "sure, thank you," to Imogen who beamed as bright as an LED light at your answer.
"Oh! Great! Just hold on a sec, Kristoff and I'll just set a table." Then, she happily skipped her way back to the kitchen, grabbing a startled Kristoff by the hem of his shirt in the process.
The moment we were left together in silence, it turned out to be as awkward as being pushed inside a confined space with your ex who you broke up with without a proper closure. Surprisingly though, when I sneaked a peak at you through my lashes, you weren't looking at me. You had your eyes focused on the painting of notes that hung by the wall in a huge wooden frame in front of us.
You were enthralled, mystified by the sight of the musical notes in painting. Amused by the expression on your face, I stared at the painting, too. And for the first time in the three years that I'd been working here, I appreciated its beauty.
It wasn't something extravagant. It obviously didn't need an explosion of colors or a burst of skill. The painting was simply a cluster of assorted musical notes dancing on the curly spiral of Staffs—all in neat and black strokes against the sunrise-colored backdrop. For a moment or two, I was breathless. Not because you were beside me in this intimate moment, but because, I finally saw true beauty unfold before my eyes.
It was like seeing the sunset slowly break into the dark sky, lighting up the black canvas, fold by fold. Until all there was left was radiance, coating the the atmosphere in a warm yellow glow.
"Marvelous, isn't it?" I heard you say. My head turned to look at you.
"Yeah," I whispered breathlessly.
A small smile broke onto your charming face, warming my insides the same way the sunlight backdrop of the painting gave warmth to the chaotic woven notes.
Silence soon followed, and this time I welcomed it with my arms wide open.

"You like dark chocolate?"
You raised your brow. "You like salted caramel?"
"Touché," I laughed, shaking my head a little.
Life was really wondrous. Who would've thought that I'd be here sitting in front of you with cups of tea and plates of cake in between us at eleven in the evening. While yesterday I was only ogling at the sight of your drool-worthy biceps and fit physique as I hid behind a wall; too scared that you'd see me.
Apparently, though, destiny had other plans. And this bitch called Destiny? I think, I wanna be friends with her. Real quick.
Sipping from my drink, I looked at you through my lashes, smiling at the way your brows pull together as you scribbled something onto the tissue paper laid in front of you.
The tip of your tongue was poking out from the corner of your mouth and a dimple in your right cheek was showing. Just like a cute boy in a middle of solving a puzzle, you looked so refreshing. Cute, in other words.
And I tried so hard not to coo. Let's save those when I'm finally in love with you.
