Chapter 4

(Salali)

Buck seems interesting. Not that I'm interested. No, no and no. I'm bubbly and happy, and some describe me as dramatic and mood changer. Sure, whatever. A deer shifter is going to be real handy against wolves.

I turned to Russhell and I kind of laughed after Buck started getting real happy from seeing Cat. Who knows why but I think Russhell and I have some hints. It would be even funnier if Cat turned out to be a deer too. Hilarious, actually.

Focus Salali, focus.

"Russhell, were you at the village?" I asked, trying to get in the zone. I think humans say that. I could be wrong, but I'm so sure....focus!

"Yeah, I went to see if anything happened," She explained, eyes sliding to the floor. I knew what that meant. And nothing good either.

"What did you see?" I asked, half hoping she wouldn't answer. It would be terrible if....no, I'm not going there.

"I only found Buck," Russhell answered, not giving away anything. I nodded, showing that I understood. Now for the next order.

"What are we going to do?" I inquired, my mind blank. Russhell sighed and sat down on a nearby chair.

"I don't know, but we can't stay here," Russhell responded, her eyes darker than usual. Cat looked confused, and Buck even more so.

"Then...where do we go?" Buck demanded, asking the silent question. Russhell shifted her weight, knowing that for once she didn't have a plan.

"What about the Anishift Royals?" Cat asked. I was perplexed that she evn knew about them. Plus, why didn't I think of them in a time like this. Russhell nodded, looking interested.

"So you really did read that book," Russhell said knowingly. Cat blushed as I realized; she read the Anlogisto Royals book.

(Russhell)

I'm still a little shocked that I didn't think of that. I mean really, me, the main strategist and idealist. I guess that's a bit...I don't know the word.

'The Anishift Royals! They'll know what to do!" I burst out, coming to a conclusion in my head. All we had to do was travel up there and find them, and then they can take care of it if they don't already know.

Buck looked worried. "They are really far away...and the wolves are on the loose...I don't know guys...will this even work?"

No one paid attention to him as he only made their case worse. I started planning immediately. We all grabbed backpacks, except for Salali and Cat, who borrowed my two extras. Buck already had his, which he took from the hut I found him in. Grabbing essentials, meaning tools, food and clothing, we were ready.

I took my knife with me. It had been a gift back when I was still human. I'll never forget that day. It was a sharp blade with a black, sleek handle. It may be small, but in the right place, it could do a lot. After borrowing out most of my clothes and raiding the kitchen, we were ready.

"Are we travelling in animal form?" Cat asked, looking concerned. I forgot; she's still not fully shifted. Suppressing a groan, I turned to her. Her ears were more out and I could see the beginning of a tail, but it wasn't enough. I couldn't just leave her either.

"We will do this form until your fully ready," I told her. She nodded in acknowledgement, and we were finally ready to set off.

We trekked away and went around the village. I didn't want them to see what happened there. After all, no one should. A little while later, Buck decided to stop the silence with one sentence.
