Chapter 6
(Salali)
I woke up and sat, letting my eyes adjust to the brightness off the room. I yawn lazily and think about going back to sleep, but I see a slightly familiar face.
He has almost black hair, and tanned skin, obviously from hanging around this village. I think his eyes are brown, but I can't tell. He is wearing a green shirt and brown shorts, and a long green and brown tail comes from behind him.
I feel uneasy as he stares, but he blinks and blushes, realizing what he was doing.
"Hi," He says almost shyly.
"Hi," I answer curtly, giving him an annoyed look. I do not like him. I know I don't even know him yet, but he's not my type. Literally. Squirrels do not have crocodiles as mates, in fact, we don't even live near each other.
"Um, welcome to the Desira Village, I'm Makar, if you forgot," He says, a bit nervous. He pronounces his name Ma-car and I watch him with a growing dislike.
"Mine's Salali," I answer shortly, and I see him through the corner of my eye, mouthing my name to himself. I narrow my eyes and feel a bit awkward. I push that thought aside. I mean, really, he doesn't expect me to like him, does he? Maybe we could become friends, and then be done.
(Makar)
Salali, Salali, Salali....
I mouth the name to myself, continuously. I'm not going to forget it. She's ignoring me now but I don't care. At least I'm in the same room. What am I doing though? Its forbidden by law to cross with animals, from what you've seen from ligers and such, there is no wonder why.
She's shoving me off, but I'm oblivious to it. Not happening. There are lots of animals in the world, as I like to say. Mainly because I can eat practically anything as long as it doesn't kill me first.
I see the redhead, I mean, Russhell, start to stir. I back away quietly, and watch as she gets up and Salali seems to brighten considerably. I see the one boy travelling with them, and start wondering if they like each other, and maybe that's why she doesn't like me.
Jealously starts to rise in me, and I stare at the lucky boy. He needs to be taken out.
I see a figure beckon me from where I sat and I reluctantly got up.
"Makar, what if they are friends with the wolves?" My mom growls at me. I roll my eyes at such an idea, but I know she's doing it for my safety.
"They aren't," I answer. No way would Salali be in league with wolves. My thoughts drift back to her and I stare behind my mom as she rants.
Croquirrel? Squirrdile?
"Makar!" My mom yells at me, and I blink once before focusing her in. She looks at me in disbelief, and throws up her hands as she walks into the kitchen. Smiling to myself, I walk back to where the group was.
(Russhell)
I wake up slowly, wanting to fall asleep again. I open my eyes and see Salali staring into my face.
"Thank goodness," Salali says, sighing in relief. I ponder over this as I stretch. Makar is daydreaming from the looks of it, and he suddenly gets up. Salali looks considerably happy at this.
"Good morning," I tell her lazily. She's bursting with joy right now, for no apparent reason either. I look around the room and see that everyone except Salali and I are still asleep. Turning back to Salali, I remember that Makar was just in the room.
