Chapter 14

(Russhell)

I'm proud of Salali.

Although she always says she hates it when you're judged by your animal, she judges herself by that too.Thinks that since she's a squirrel that means she won't have as many abilities as other Anishifters. She really just needs more faith in herself and what she can do, and everything will go fine. More self-esteem.

"Okay, so here's the next thing. We go to the exit and just like that, we'll be out!" Makar said, all happily, like it'll be the easiest thing ever. They got us here, so I'm sure they won't have a problem keeping us here.

"Just like that?" Cat repeated, looking dubious at his next plan of action. Makar nodded, grinning.

"Simply, simple, just like that."

"What are we waiting for?" Salali asked, obviously pumped after getting the stone herself, her tail twitching eagerly. "Let's go!" She cheered, leading the way back to the entrance. The rest of us followed suit.

Salali held up the stone, it flashing with colours of its own to the door, and the door responding in a similar way. After anticipating the worst, we watched, holding our breath as it finally opened. Makar started making a mad dash to get out, but I swiftly cut in froont of him, stopping the rest of the group.

"Wait!" I said loudly, trying to have their full attention before they dash away again. Most animals don't like loud noise, or just notice it really easily because of the enhanced hearing, or are frightened by it, making them still sometimes. Either way, human or animal, it's a good way to get attention.

"Russhell, don't stop us!" Salali said back at me.

"Did any of you ever think of traps? Or cameras? And other high tech or magical stuff? They could have an alarm shield set up!" I informed the group, who all looked at me blankly.

"Russhell could be right..," Cat starts, agreeing with me, but Salali and Makar didn't look so sure.

"I think you're way overthinking this, Russhell. I respect you as a predator, but everyone knows foxes are scavengers mostly anyways. And scavengers are always kind of antsy because anyone can steal their meal. I think this is just that scavenger instinct that you're always in danger," Makar remarked, looking at me striaght in the eye.

Naturally, for dog related creatures, this means the one looking you in the eye wants to fight. Not sure if this rule is the same for crocodiles, but Makar is looking straight at me anyways. Any smart canine would look down, because honestly, who is going to win a fight against a crocodile? For foxes, at least. Most likely, the fox would lose. But Makar had just said things against scavengers. All scavengers and the instincts that keep them alive. I wasn't backing down any time soon.

"Oh really? Just an abnormal precaution that could possibly help us get out of this place and alive anyways. Being careful is helpful. I don't know how they typically are, but do crocodiles simply rush in without thinking anything other than attack, kill? Scavenger skills keep us alive, not rush us in. But go on ahead! See where that gets you," I argued, moving out of the way and letting him free way past me.

"Thank you very much," Makar said dryly, tail lashing slightly. He walked past, leading Cat and Salali on, who followed a bit after glancing at me.

Even they sided with him. I'm already mad at Makar, but this seemed to make it worse. I pushed those thoughts out though. I was a fox Anishifter after all. Solo, on my own. I didn't need the rest of them to make it out of this place.

Still, I watched them from afar, wondering if I really was wrong as they progressed. Nothing seemed out of balance or place. They were making good pace away from me. I looked behind me, wondering if anyone had noticed, but then slipped out, following them.
