Chapter 9
(Salali)
Words or nuts will never explain how glad I was to see Teigra, there to rescue us.
Sure, I could've gotten out myself, easily. Buck was just holding me back from rescuing us. I mean, I could've simply bitten through our bonds. No doubt there.
Even though Teigra just managed to get ahead of me, we were fine. Buck and I hadn't seen our capturer but there must have been three by the sound of it. All cold and scaly feeling. Just thinking about it makes me shiver.
I hesitant as Teigra leads us out. I mean, really, are the ones who caught us really going to let us get away that easily? I suddenly feel paranoid and stick close to Teigra and Buck. A sudden flurry of movement at the corner of my eye and I hightail it out of there.
I'm running fast and the hot sand burns my paws, I run faster and faster, not checking to see if Teigra and Buck are behind me. Wait a second...I skid to a stop and look behind to see...nothing. Feeling a bit fearful now, I scout around looking for where they went. They didn't leave me, did they?
I start to panic and promptly following that, I'm snatched up in a green vine like woven net. My captor ginned at me and before I blacked out, I recognized her. It was Audun, one of those desert iguanas with their loser bush.
(Teigra)
This could possible be the worst day of my life.
"Where in Anlogisto are we?" I say crossly to Buck. He sighed and gave me a look. I knew very well that he had as much as an idea as I did, but still. I turned to face the two grinning females in front of us. That's right, females, not girls. I don't want to be in a league with them.
"Oh, poor, poor, you," Eremita sneered at us, and I could feel my claws start to come out. It was useless to fight, since they had us both in cages with our hands tied behind our back. They even took the precaution to use malo, which meant that the spell they used disabled our shifting powers.
Now, I don't know much about spells, but I do know that I don't need a measly spell to kill them right now. Sharnell must have assumed this, so she held back on her taunting.
"Ere, they are going to be here soon," Sharnell reminded Eremita, keeping her eyes on the only way out of the room. Buck had been gazing hopefully at the entrance, but as soon as he heard reinforcements were coming, he gave it up and looked down mournfully.
Why does he have to appear weak? I glared with all my strength at him, saying the message through it. He either ignored me or just didn't notice, but still, he did nothing.
Sharnell and Eremita whirled around with grins but the grin fell as soon as they saw it was just Audun. Audun smiled at them, lifting up a net for the two of them to see. My hope instantly failed me as I saw she had caught a brown, furry, animal.
Feeling angered, I let my anger out at them. "Who do you think you are, taking our friends just because we were passing through the desert?" I yell at them. Sharnell smirks a bit, while Eremita and Audun looked at their 'leader' expectantly.
"You don't know anything," Sharnell scoffed at me. "Sure, we are mad about you forest animals passing through what we call home, but that's only half the reason. I mean really, why would we go through the trouble of catching you? I certainty don't want to eat forest meat," She added.
Knowing I was powerless against her, I shrug the insult off and waited for her to continue.
"In fact, the whole reason your here is because the-" Sharnell said, but a deep voice interrupted her. Three Anishifters streamed into the room in human form.
"Wolves," He finished for Sharnell. She shrank back and gasped at the sight of them. Composing herself, she smiled weakly while Eremita and Audun moved behind her.
"We-we got them," Sharnell said, stumbling over the words.
(Russhell)
This isn't going as was planned.
I despise unplanned events and surprises that take a turn in my plans. Cat and I both got out of the bush from finding nothing, to an empty landscape without Teigra. Great, the first thing that went wrong.
Cat and I were dumbfounded as to why Teigra would leave in the first place, unless taken by force. Or, if my suspicions were correct, she was in fact in league with the wolves.
Cat seemed to read my mind. "Russhell, maybe she went because she saw something?" Cat guessed unconvincingly. I shook my head and a thought entered my mind.
"Makar isn't here," I said with slow realization. In fact, I hadn't seen in a long time. Perhaps it was Makar instead. Never less, we needed to find those Anishifters.
"Cat, let's follow those tracks and scent line to where she is. Maybe, it's still fresh enough," I suggest. Cat agrees readily, even though its not like we have many options to chose from.
We follow the tracks and I stop as a familiar scent seems to pierce my nose, and I tremble at the thought. Cat rushed up to me. "Russhell? What is it?" She asks me, flicking her tail.
"Wolves," I breath daringly, barely able to take a breath. Oh Lukela, why you?
I saw Cat shudder in her animal form at the vicious animals. There was no why if we had to rescue them, that we would succeed. Cat is too inexperienced, and I wouldn't be able to take on a wolf by myself, unless it was small. Which was unlikely.
Feeling in desperation I drop down to the sand, feeling it swirl up into the air, and make a wave down. I close my eyes and I know Cat knows what I'm thinking. What are we going to do?
(Salali)
I blink open my eyes, which widen as a terrible smell hits me.
Wolves!
I think instinctively, curling my body, knowing I can't run away if I'm in a net. The three wolf Anishifters are there, and so are Teigra and Buck's captors. Feeling overwhelmed, I watch the newcomers.
Their leader appears to be a black wolf Anishifter, with black hair and a fluffy black tail, with smooth fur. His face is tanned and his eyes are piercing black, like black holes. I gulp as he smirks at us, like we're prey or something. His companions are a girl and another boy, only short this time.
The girl has fair cream coloured hair, with white ears and tail. Her eyes are a stunning violet, and I wonder how such a devastating creature could have such eyes. The only thing that ruined her look was the grin on her face as she looked at us. I'm not surprised why, we were practically radiating fear.
The last boy was shorter with a white tail, with black and brown spots. He gazed at us with a nervous energy, and he looked at the two wolves and seemed to relax. I glared at him as I realized he was the wolf that had chased me.
The three wolf Anishifters went over to Teigra and Buck, and stood in front of them before turning to the three desert lizard girls.
"They are the ones, but where are the others?" He asks, looking at them with suspicion. They glance at each other and Eremita spoke. "They have to be on their trail by now, so they will be coming right to you," Eremita said a bit boldly. The wolf boy smiled, looking a bit impressed.
"We are coming, my kin," He said softly to himself. Teigra managed to hear and gasped quietly. She shut her eyes and a single thought swirled around. Don't come!
-So intense huh? Sorry to leave you like that ;) Did anyone see Sharnell, Eremita, and Audun coming back into this chapter? How about those three wolves form chapter 4? Its called....foreshadowing! Have fun waiting ;)- Moonflier
