Chapter 12 (Part 2)

(Buck)

I was in the hall when I heard them.

Cat was going on and on about some people and asking the group if they would join her in some expedition of sorts. Smiling to myself, I knew this was a great moment to test out if I'd be a good spy. Even if my instructor didn't think I was to be one, I was going to see what I could do.

I listened from my room, leaving the door open a crack, but enough to make it look as if it was closed. Teigra said no, and I could see why. It didn't seem like a smart idea. I waited and waited for Cat to come in and ask me, but she never did. After a fair amount of time waiting, I stood up and opened the door, seeing the hallway was empty. Puzzled, I sniffed the air, and the scent was old.

I walked out of our dorm and the scent trails led down different hallways. They were looking for a way out! I had to tell someone! Briefly wondered what they would think if I told. The whole plan to tell the Anishift Royals that the wolves had come was useless. Now they wanted to run off again?

Tell the Anti Anishifters what they were doing and gain glory, and trust? Or let his friends leave him without asking if he wanted to go?

Deciding swiftly, I turned off to the hallway marked 'Leaders dorm, do not enter'. It may have said don't enter, but...this was important. I had to.

I knocked on the one door and it opened, showing an annoyed girl.

"What brings you here, rookie?" She snarled sitting up in her chair, tossing aside a book. My palms sweat and I found myself taking quicker breaths as the predator eyed me suspiciously.

"Uh um, my fri-friends are leav-leaving..." I stumbled, trailing off. This was not how I planned it. I was supposed to be me, gladly giving up my friends for this group, and earning rewards and trust, not being...a deer.

She looked surprised, but then took an amused expression. "Leaving you say?" I nodded quickly, and she laughed. "Your friends might be planning to leave, but they won't find a way out. This place is sealed tight. Though, surprising that you gave up their plan," she raised an eyebrow at this, and looked at me pointedly.

I reddened and looked down at the ground, but reacted instantly to this and lifted my head again to look her in the eye. "What's the point of leaving such an organization where you can actually be somebody? I'm no use to them, but I want to be a use to the organization."

She studied me, flicking her tail. "Well, an interesting choice. Thank you for coming, but in the future I would advise to making an appointment just in case I am not in a good mood,"  she added, looking to the door purposely. I nodded and practically ran out.

"Buck?" I heard Salali say. I turned in surprise and instantly closed my train of thought, making sure I didn't say much.

"Oh, uh, hi Salali," I answered awkwardly, mentally slapping myself for my nervousness. What if they found out what I did? Salali tilted her head but pretended not to notice.

"So...did you hear?" Salali asked me, looking around uneasily.

"Hear what?" I questioned, even though I already knew. I would need to keep up an act unless I wanted them to know about what I did.

Salali leaned in and motioned for me to do the same. I obliged and lowered my head. "We are leaving this place! Going to find a group of people!" Salali announced, looking delighted with herself and quite pleased. I wasn't impressed.

"A group of people? Why?" I snapped, annoyed that they didn't ask me and that she looked so pleased.

Salali recoiled, obviously not used to this side of me. "Buck...Cat had a dream about it and..." I interrupted her before she could finish, fed up with this.
