HyeLim

From that night, my life was a wreck.

I broke free from Hankyung's hug, still crying, and rushed over to Sungmin's bedside.

"Sungmin? Can you hear me?." I took his limp hand and squeezed it.

"Squeeze back if you can hear me" I said, my voice wobbling.

Sungmin

"Squeeze back if you can hear me"

I tried to make my hand squeeze hers, but my hand just wasn't obeying my actions. Nothing in my body was obeying my actions. I was stuck in a world where I wasn't in control. I was like a CPU on a game, being controlled by machines.

I started to drift out of consciousness. Was I sleeping? Was I about to die? No, I was probably about to sleep, giving the feeling I felt. I let the unconsciousness take me over...

HyeLim

His hand stayed limp in mine, refusing to squeeze back.

"Oh Sungmin" I said, tears running down my cheeks.

"He can hear you" said a doctor, who had overheard everything I said. "He just can't respond"

"So, he's alive?"

"Just. He is only just. We got him on life support just in time"

"So he can't live by himself?"

"The life support is something to help him back up on his feet. In saying that, full recovery could take months, even years"

"How about a few weeks?" I asked worriedly.

"We'd need a totally rare miracle for that to happen" said the doctor. She put her hand on my shoulder.

"The bright side is that he won't end up where Dae-Hyun went, hopefully" she said.

"Who is this Dae-Hyun we're hearing about?"

"He was the driver of the cab that Sungmin was in"

"Oh..." I said. I was dazed, and not it a good way.

That's when my pain started.

I stayed wherever Sungmin was until midday that day. I moved with him to his new ward, held his hand whenever someone ran tests on him and sat near his bed, staring into space, waiting for him to wake up.

At midday, Hankyung and Leeteuk came. All of the others had gone home and stayed there. They were all exhausted and weren't allowed to see Sungmin until visiting hours.

I was frowning at Sungmin.

"How can you look so peaceful-" I thought out loud. "-when you're battling with your brain?"

His eyes stayed shut and he stayed non-respondant. His chest rose and fell and the room was so silent I could hear his heavy breathing.

"Lim?" asked Hankyung, coming into the ward.

"What"

"You've been at the hospital since 4" he said quietly, like I was an agressive animal and he was trying not to make me angry. "Do you want to come out of here for a bit and eat?"

"Why would I want to eat when Sungmin is lying here, and there's no telling when he'll wake up, or if he'll wake up at all?" I responded in a whisper.

"We were just asking, HyeLim" said Leeteuk.

"You can't starve, though, HyeLim" said Hankyung.

"I don't want to leave his side"

"If we have to force-feed you we will-"
