HyeLim
I sobbed next to his bed, my hand still squeezing his. His entire body was pale white. The pulse monitor was just making an endless beeping sound. No breathing escaped from his lips.
My worst fear since 1st grade had come true.
Sungmin was dead.
Leeteuk brought out his phone and started dialling. Hankyung had his hands clasped in his lap, his head bowed.
"Heechul...get all the boys and EunJung down here now" said Leeteuk. The tears in his voice were obvious. He struggled to say the next part without sobbing.
"Sungmin...he's...gone"
The whole reference set me into uncontrollable, loud, full out wailing.
This was it. My entire reason for being here at the beach, in Korea, my entire reason for even being alive...
Was gone.
Leeteuk flipped his phone closed, swallowing.
"Heechul started crying as soon as I said it. He said he had the phone on speaker and...everyone else is crying too. You're not alone, Lim" he said. He hugged me. I lay my forehead on his shoulder and cried, not letting go of Sungmin's hand. When I pulled away I lay my ear on Sungmin's chest. I could hear nothing. It was like a hollow cave.
But then the most amazing thing happened.
His heart started stuttering. The pulse monitor stopped the continous beep and started making shaky singular beeps. The singular line on the monitor turned into shaky lines.
I gasped. I swear I saw a small smile enter his face. His hand squeezed mine and my eyes widened.
"Sungmin? I whispered. He took a breath. A small grin entered my face. His eyes fluttered open. They looked over to me.
"HyeLim..." he croaked.
Leeteuk and Hankyung looked up in surprise.
"No way..." said Leeteuk.
Hankyung was speechless.
"Sungmin!" I said, throwing myself onto him. He grunted in pain but hugged me back slowly.
I turned back to Leeteuk.
"Get the doctor again! She has to see this!"
Leeteuk nodded and ran out into the hallway. Hankyung sat down, rubbing his head.
"Is this real or are we imagining this?" he asked.
"Hyung, I'm alive" said Sungmin. "I was so close to dying..."
"You did die" I said, crying tears of joy. "But then it was like you were reborn"
The doctor ran in and spotted Sungmin hugging me.
"That's....that's impossible!" she said. She power walked up to him and checked his pulse.
"Your pulse is...normal! I don't see how that's possible when a vein in your abdomen burst!" she said, clearly surprised.
"I guess you could say it was a miracle" he said, grinning.
We heard many loud footsteps and then 10 people arrived at the door. Heechul was at the front, his eyes red.
"Sungmin? You're...you're alive?"
"I was dead for about a minute" he said. "But then something revived me"
"Oh dongsaeng" said Heechul. He rushed up to Sungmin and embraced him. Everyone else joined in, even Hankyung.
"Alright everyone, let's give Mr Lee some space" said the doctor.
Everyone left except for Donghae and Eunhyuk.
"Boys?" said the doctor expectantly.
"We're Mr Lee's too!"
"Pardon?"
"I'm Lee Donghae!" said Donghae.
"And I'm Lee Hyukjae!" said Eunhyuk. "We're all Lee's"
The doctor laughed.
"Ok, Hyukjae, Donghae, please give Mr Lee Sungmin some space!"
"Ok!" they said in unison. They got off Sungmin and the doctor ran some tests on him. We had to wait an hour for the tests to come back, and luckily, it was good news.
"You still need to stay in the hospital for about a week to make sure that the vein is fine and steady enough to be left alone, and also to get a proper cast and sling fitted for your arm" said the doctor, slipping the pen over her ear. "Other than that we see no more potential hazards that could be fatal. If that vein is fine by the end of next week, we can discharge you"
We all breathed a sigh of relief.
"That miracle you all needed happened" said the doctor, smiling. "If anything goes wrong call in a nurse. I must tend to some other patients"
With that she left the room. Siwon smiled.
"Go to church, everyone. Be glad that I go, at least" he said.
"Still the same Siwon" said Sungmin.
"Hyung, nothing has changed with me in the last 6 days!"
We all laughed.
But as soon as they all left to get dinner, the tension started up.
"How has your...relationship been going on?" said Sungmin.
Hankyung tensed.
"Let's not talk about that, Sungmin, you just died and came back to life" I said.
"Please? It will put my mind at rest."
"Sungmin, can you give us a minute?" said Hankyung suddenly. Sungmin nodded. He pulled me out of the room.
"This may hurt, but let me explain"
"What? What is it?"
He breathed in.
"I think we should call this off"
