Lily's POV
I blew out a puff out air in sheer boredom, making my side bangs float up then back down onto my eye. Having done this many times in the last hour, I grew annoyed and I quickly pinned them to the side, grateful that afterwards I could see everything more clearly.
It had barely started raining here in Florida. It started a mere two days ago, and because of it, everyone on the streets had disappeared; either into their homes or their work places, but the point is that there was less traffic than there was without a storm.
But, the best part about the storms is that everyone craves something warm and fast; something like pizza. (Or soup...) So once the storm hit, I've been on my feet for the duration of my shifts, and delivering pizzas around town, making the worn parents sigh with relief and children squeal with delight.
Causing people's happiness was the only upside to this job. Sure, I may be handing them something that will give them a step closer to a heart attack, but that's beside the point. The point is that I love my job since I can deliver pizzas and hear the wonderful compliments or see genuine smiles, but, even if I enjoyed my job outside of the shop, it didn't affect how much I now hated working in the shop.
Before these past few days, I loved it, more-or-less, it was tolerable working in the shop. But now, it has become the opitimy of torture. All day, everyday since our quarrel, Alex has literally turned into someone else, a complete stranger. Our friendship has become a mere memory, and it was so hard to imagine that the new girl that more replaced Alex was ever my bestfriend, especially with what she did earlier.
*Flashback from earlier*
I was carrying five freshly baked and boxed pizzas in both hands. It may not sound like a difficult task, but try carrying scorching hot pizzas, which the cardboard did not seal off, without dropping them all the way to a far away countertop. Fun.
The kitchen doors swished to a close behind me, but they quickly swished back open...then closed again. "'Ugh, can you be any slower, Lily?''' I heard a voice groan behind me, but it soon turned to a voice full of venom as she got to my name. She spit it out as if it was expired milk.
I rolled my eyes and continued making my way towards the so-close table top. All of a sudden, I was pushed forward. The sudden force made me stumble, but luckily the pizzas landed safely without sliding off the smooth surface of the table. I turned and glared at my ex bestfriend. "'Oh, I'm sorry."' She faked sympathy. "'But it's not my fault you weren't able to ever balance things. You know, like our friendship and your life."' Alex faked a smile before walking off.
*End of Flashback*
It was heart-breaking since she was my bestfriend. And, I had all the right to be crushed. No one can blame me for my sadness or my twinge of anger. Wouldn't you be sad if you broke off a very close relationship? I sure am, but I have to admit...it would be a lot worse without Cry.
He's the only reason why I'm pushing through this retched day. What's the deal with you and Cry, Lily? My mind questioned. In all honesty, I don't know. I sighed. All I really could make sense of it all is that I have a strong admiration for the masked Youtuber, and I'm not sure how that will play out with my sensitivity and loud mouth.
I grumbled nonsense as my mom shoved another pizza with a sticky note into my hands before walking off to another matter. Let's just hope I survive the rest of this work day.
*Timeskip*
"Closing time!'' My mom yelled out, making my co-workers and I sigh with utter content. I quickly finished up my table, grabbed my things, slipped into my green 'sup?' hoodie, grabbed my hair into a high messy ponytail, and hurried my mother. ''My-my, Lily. Where will you be going this evening?'' She asked with a raised eyebrow.
