Indian weddings...they are like this family tour package, to be honest, parts upon parts, phases upon phases going on for days. And that is exactly the reason why I had to rush back from London just a few days after graduation with three of my friends. No, not my wedding. Kiss that dream goodbye, ya'll. But my cousin sister's. It's not like I'm not a social person. I am but my London lifestyle sometimes gets overwhelming for some of my conservative family. Not mum and dad, though. But mostly grandparents, uncles and aunts and cousins.
So I along with my friends Vesper, Cleo and Alura had to go over a few rules again and again
1. No kissing boys in public
2. No wearing anything that exposes your cleavage or your thighs, including crop tops, my favourite denim shorts, booty shorts and so on.
3. No swearing in front of family members
4. No alcohol in front of the family
5. No smoking (as if)
6. No going out alone after seven at night.
7. No hooking up with anyone
Other than a few more rules here and there, we were good. But what I dreaded was those family hugs and the "Hey, Caelia, it's been ages!", "Oh my gosh, Caelia, your skin tone's so much fairer!" and worse "Hey, Caelia-ugh, I still don't get what kind of a name is Caelia", "What are those things you're wearing?! They expose all your legs!"
But other than that, it'll be a good time. Well, I hope so.
Author's Notes:
Hi! I see you have decided to stumble upon my book. Thank you! Or to match the theme of this book, shukria!
If you've read any of my earlier books, hi again! And if you haven't, I am Arkadipta (Or-koh-deep-taa) dental 'T's and 'D's. Well, I am Bengali so the Hindi pronounciation would be Ar-ka-deep-taa so like, call me by whichever one you like. I prefer Arka. So anyways, that's a whole lot of rant about my name, so comment here about what's yours and where you're from.
Well, I actually got this idea off my friend Isha's love life. One day she goes off to a sister's wedding and four days later she's on the phone with me "Hey, Arka, guess what? I got a boyfriend!"
I was like "Bitch, say wha-"
Therefore, the book.
I know it's not the best plot. Like it's short and cliché or whateva but it feels nice to mix One Direction with my Indian native things and stuff. Yeahhhh, so there'll be Hindi sentences here and there, I'll give you the translations and hopefully I will not mix up the hundreds of rules of our Indian weddings because I've spent a fair few hours on Google, going over everything so yeah.
P.S: My mother tongue however is Bengali and I only studied Hindi as my third language for like three years (I sucked) so if anyone out there knowing Hindi finds grammatical errors INFORM ME ASAP!
Hehe, drawbacks of living in a country with a million languages. I mean, I could do it in Bengali but Zayn doesn't actually speak Bengali, does he? And he's one of the groomsmen so...
See you in chapter one.
Love you,
-Arkadipta
