I glanced out the passenger window. I've seen one too many pastures today. "Mom, how much longer?" I asked annoyed. "Only another 30 minutes, Alice. Be patient." My mom said emotionless. There really hasn't been much meaning to anything she spoke lately. Over the last few weeks everything seemed so empty.
I have been in this car for about 3 hours because my mom and I are headed to the city to live in some trashy apartment. We were living by the beach where I had an endless view. That was until my parents got divorced a month ago. We would've moved earlier, but my mom wanted to wait untill I finished up junior year. Now i have the whole summer to spend with my mom.
I'm going back to my dad's for my senior year because the school system is appearently better where i used to live. I'm looking foward to going back, so I have the beach again. I feel bad that my mom will have to be in some shitty apartment by herself, but there's nothing I can really do.
Out the window now was tall skyscrapers and old timey shops. Honestly , I was sort of suprised by what seemed like endless amounts of people and buildings everywhere. "Luckily the apartment is away from the central part of this area. There won't be so much noise at night." I nodded as my mom spoke. We turned down another street and my mom pointed to a building that said Trust Medical Center. "That's where i'll be working." She said with a small smile upon her lips. "It's only 10 minutes away from the apartment. I like the convinience." I wasn't sure if my mom could tell that the conversation was awkward.
Things between my parents and I have just been a little off lately. Their divorce was really sudden and all my mom would tell me is that her and my dad weren't in love anymore. I wasn't sure if i believed that because they had been married for 15 years, but i decided not to ask too many questions. I didn't want to take sides and my parents supported that.
I was in deep thought when I realized that my mom was calling my name and we had pulled into a parking lot. "Alice get out we're here." My mom repeated. "Sorry" I said, while opening my eyes and sitting up. I looked around to see multiple apartment buildings that must've all belonged to this one big complex. The place actually looked kind of nice. Maybe this wouldn't be so bad.
