I walked out to the living space to find my mom sitting on the couch. "So, what do you think of everything?" She asked while reaching her hand into a bag of potato chips. I smiled and said "You won't believe what I found out. There is a balcony attached to my room!" She smiled back at me , "That was supposed to be a pleasent suprise for you." I wrapped my arms around her in a hug. "Thank you so much for giving me that room." She gave me a quick kiss on my forehead. "Hey, it's the least I could do."
"I think i'm going go to bed. It's already 8." I got up from the sofa and headed back to my room. I got my sheets and comforter out of my bag to make my bed. I snatched up my pillow and finally I could get some sleep.
The familiar sound of my ringtone filled my head. I opened my eyes and stretched to reach my phone on the bedside table. The time was 1:38am and the caller ID said my dad was calling. "Hello..." I said with a quite obvious 'I just woke up' voice. All I heard was background voices which led me to the idea this was probably an accidental dial.
I was just about to hang up when I heard my dad's voice more clearly say, "Hey Stephen , give me that back. Hello? Alice?" Who the hell is Stephen and why was he at my dads house? "Uhm, ya. Im here" "Sorry for waking you the kid got to the phone." "The kid....what kids are you talking about?" There was a slight pause before he spoke. Now I was standing up leaning against the door to the balcony. "I'm not sure if your mom wants you to know." "Know what?!" At this point I was practically yelling. I went out to the balcony and sat on the cement and put my back against the rail. I didnt want to risk waking my mom up while I yelled at my dad.
"Alice, I-" He stuttered his words. "You what?!" I interrupted him. "I have another kid." At that moment I felt like I was the center point of the whole world spinning around me.
