We stayed a couple nights in the tunnels, sleeping on anything we could find. Dinah & Max's tunnel was also a dead end but they had found a door that led to a secret room. The room was filled with supplies and gadgets.
We all agreed to camp out in the room so we could reload and rebuild our weapons.
We needed some rest from the long stressful day to cope with the tragedy.
I awoken from my long sleep and grabbed my bag so I could check the time on my watch. It was a little later than I had thought. Everyone was still sleep so I guess we were more tired than we thought.
I looked beside me and found Lauren laying close to me. I grinned and remember the long conversations we have from time to time. Actually now that I think about it, it was just me rambling on and on about stupid things, but she always listened.
I got up and started walking towards the door. Everyone was sound asleep and I didn't want to wake them because I knew they needed To rest.
The tunnel was secluded and it didn't really look like the way you'd take to get away from dwellers.
It was dark and kinda scary.
I walked out the door quietly and walked into the first tunnel Lauren and I had took. I immediately remembered what had taken place. I smiled and place my hand on the same spot Lauren had pushed me up against. Then doing the same to the other side thinking what we would have done if Dinah didn't stop us.
All of sudden the rocky walls started to rumble and rocks fell from in front of me. I started to run back thinking I'd be crushed if I stayed any longer. I tripped and fell flat on my stomach colliding with the rocks.
The rumbling stopped and I turned around. The dead end that was once there was now an open passageway. I recovered myself off the ground and stared aimlessly. It looked like a mining tunnel. There were tracks on the ground.
I was speechless. Maybe this tunnel led to Havens Peek. I quickly but carefully ran back to the room to tell the others. They were awake standing around when I walked in.
"Guys I have some good news."
They all whipped there heads around towards me and Max came running over grabbing me in a hug. "See! I told you guys she was okay."
Dinah rolled her eyes in relief and Lauren walked up punching me in my arm.
"Ow! What the hell was that for?"
"You don't leave without saying something to us first. We thought you were in trouble again." Lauren said furiously.
"I'm sorry. I just didn't want to wake you guys. You looked so peaceful." I apologized
Max squeezed me tighter before letting go and Lauren gave me a reassuring smile.
"So what's the good news?" Dinah asked
"I found another passageway."
"How?"
"I don't know. I was just roaming the tunnels and I put my hand on the wall and the rocks started falling. I think it's a mining tunnel."
"Secret passageway!" Max said excitedly.
"Yup. It has to be the way to Havens Peek."
"But what if it's not?" asked Dinah
"What other choice do we have? We can't go back now.... only forward." Lauren informed.
Everyone stood silent for a moment and with a huff Dinah agreed and we all started packing our things. Lauren and I led the way with Max and Dinah close behind.
"Remember the last time we were in this tunnel." Lauren winked.
"How could I forget." I giggled.
"Oh and you said you wanted to tell me something? What was it?"
Lauren looked at me and then back at the tracks. Her small smile soon disappeared and she grabbed my hand.
"Soon. I promise."
