Knuckles is a sixteen-year-old, anthropomorphic, dreadlocked, hard-headed, red echidna. He is the last of an echidna tribe that used to civilize the people, but they abused their power, and their God destroyed them. Now all he does is guard the Master Emerald.
Knuckles always puts fists before words. He has two fists with spikes used for punching things like trees and boulders, and can use the spikes for climbing walls. He also has the ability to glide for a few seconds. He also receives a powerful tool called the Shovel Claw. He uses it for digging.
He may be strong and serious, but he always does things his way. He can also be a knucklehead at times. He can be very gullible. At times, Dr. Robotnik will always try to manipulate Knuckles by saying that he has changed his ways.
But even though he can be gullible, and pretty much of a grump. All Knuckles does is one mission, and one mission only: Guard the Master Emerald, and protect the Angel Island.
