chapter 4 - can we keep him, please?

-----

It has been two hours since the start of exam. I have been bored out of my mind as we all ran, following after the examiner.

These examiners must hate being specific because they say the most vague things, especially that old lady. And they must love it when they see us rattled and frustrated. We don't know how long this is going to take, how far we have to run, and what we still must do.

A kid with spiky silver hair came whizzing past Leorio for he was on a skateboard. Leorio caused a racket, which made me face him.

"Leorio-san, nobody said that we have to run to pass this phase. Now, please stop complaining and leave the kid alone."

He looked at me with ferocious eyes. An irk mark formed on his forehead and continued to shout. I rolled my eyes and faced forward again.

"She's right," Gon said. I smiled at him but stuck my tongue out at Leorio.

The silver-haired boy slowed down to match Gon and my pace. Upon closer inspection, he has the bluest of eyes that I have ever seen in my life. He's paler than me, which is saying something. He's wearing a blue, long-sleeved turtleneck, and wore a muscle tee over it. He also looks like he's our age.

"Hey, how old are you two?" he asked us.

"We're both twelve years old," Gon answered for the both of us.

The boy seemed surprised before doing some trick with his skateboard and started running alongside with us. "Guess I'll run too."

"Wow! That's cool!" Gon said in awe.

"I'm Killua," the boy said.

"I'm Gon!"

"I'm Akane," I said with a wave of my hand. "I'm curious. Why is your hair so white like an old man when you're still just a kid?" I faked a gasp. "Wait. Don't tell me you're actually a hundred years old or something?"

Killua's eye twitched in annoyance. "It's silver, actually."

I laughed. "That's what bothered you the most?"

An irk mark formed on his forehead as he grit his teeth in anger. "Look who's talking! You have the weirdest hair, you red-head!"

"Its strawberry blonde, actually" I realized what he just did and I let out a laugh. "You're cool."

I then turned to Gon. "Can we keep him, please?" I asked with puppy-dog eyes.

"Hey! I'm not some cat or pet!' Killua protested.

"You look like a cat, though," I said to him. I nudged Gon and whispered, "He totally looks like a cat, right?" Gon just laughed.

Leorio's briefcase suddenly clunked onto the ground, and Leorio stopped to catch his breath. I halted in my tracks, Gon and Killua following suit.

We looked back and stared at him. He looked up and stared back at us. Sweat dripped on the side of his face and his jaw was dropped as he inhaled and exhaled large amounts of air.

After a few seconds, it was as if a switch flipped inside Leorio. He took large strides as he ran past us, screaming all his frustrations out as he waved his top around like a deranged man.

"Crazy old man!" I shouted at him as Gon used his fishing rod to get Leorio's briefcase.

"Cool! Let me try that later!' Killua said.
