Chapter eight:
<><><><>
September 10th, 2013. - Sunday."Emery?"
"Yeah?"
"Can you come over? I need to talk too you."
I let out a breath throwing my phone on my bed.
Now that I officially know I'm pregnant I need to tell someone else, I couldn't handle it on my own.
Emery ran into my room, screaming "Hi Mrs. and Mr. Taylor!" Shutting the door behind her.
"I'm so sorry A'Miyah! I was a total bitch I shouldn't have said that to you-"
"Emery I'm pregnant."
"It was such a bitch move! Wait what?" Emery stopped talking.
"I'm pregnant."
"Stop lying Miyah this isn't funny.
I got up from my bed, letting the blanket fall from my waist.
Emery's eyes popped out of her head. She slapped her hand to her mouth.
"I know right." I said wiping my tears away.
Emery embraced me in her arms, I let out a breath falling into my best friends hold.
"Miyah..."
"I know." I sniffled.
I pulled away from Emery sitting down on my bed.
"How did this happen?" Emery said sitting next to me on the bed.
"Well." I said taking a deep breath.
"I went to a party in July."
"I got completely drunk off my ass, and slept with a random guy. Two months later here we are." I said pointing at my belly.
"Oh Miyah."
"Do you know who the father is?"
"I do."
"Who?"
"Princeton." I whispered looking down at my swollen feet.
"No fucking way."
"Tell me about it."
"Princeton, the Princeton that goes to our school?"
"That's the one."
"Does he know?"
"No."
"Do you want him to know?"
"I don't know."
"Oh Miyah."
"I know." I said breaking out into sobs.
"I can't do this Emery. I can't."
Emery pulled me into her arms, rubbing circles on my back.
"Miyah, you are the strongest person I know, you can handle anything."
"I know you can do this, this wasn't a mistake this was a miracle in disguise. I promise you Miyah you won't go through this alone, I'll be there every step of the way."
I sniffled pulling away, I wiped at my face, smiling at Emery.
"Thanks Em."
"I think you should tell Princeton though. He deserves to know."
"I just don't think I can handle him turning away, not from me. But from his baby."
"Princeton was drawn to you the first day of school, now that I think about it all makes sense. Even the baggy sweaters." Emery said laughing.
I chuckled with her, rubbing circular motions on my stomach.
"I don't think Princeton will walk away from you though Miyah."
"Do your parents know?"
"No, not yet. I'll tell them eventually I mean I can't hide it forever, I'm getting bigger everyday. Pretty soon I won't be able to hide beneath the sweaters anymore." I said looking down at my growing baby.
"I can't believe you're going to be a mom."
"Me either." I said laughing.
"Are you scared?"
"Shitless." I replied.
Emery sighed falling back on to my bed.
I rolled over onto my side facing Emery.
"I hope it's a boy." I said smiling.
"I hope it's a girl."
"Then you can name her after me."
"Shut up." I said laughing.
"Hey, I'm just saying." Emery said shrugging her shoulders.
I rolled onto my back staring at my ceiling fan.
"It's going to be hard Emery. I keep telling myself I'm ready. But I'm nowhere near being ready. I can't even tell my parents or the father."
"Who else knows Miyah?"
"Just Laya." Emery whistled nodding her head.
"Well I'm here for you." Emery said grabbing my hand.
"I know." I said squeezing her hand.
"Want to know something crazy?"
"What's crazier than this?" Emery said motioning towards my belly.
"Princeton's mother is my OBGYN doctor, I ran into him in the parking lot, I told him I was here with my mom." I said shrugging my shoulders.
Emery broke out into fits of laughter.
"That's fucked up." Emery said trying to catch her breath.
"I know tell me about it." We sat in silence for a minute until Emery decided to question me some more.
"What are you going to do, when Princeton comes over and meets your mom and sees she's not pregnant."
"Hopefully when Princeton comes over, the baby will be here so I won't really need to explain, cause by then it'll all make sense."
Emery laughed nodding her head in agreement.
"Well that's what I'm planning anyways." I said shrugging my shoulders, I pursed my lips, trailing my fingers up and down my belly.
"Your plans never work out."
"Yeah I know." I groaned.
"It'll be alright Miyah. Everything happens for a reason."
"Amen to that sister, amen to that."
