I knocked on the door and waited outside for an answer. Instead, I heard absolutely nothing.

"Hello?"

I heard someone get up and then unlock the door. She opened it only a few inches so I could see her face. Her blond hair was tied up into a bun and her bright blue eyes looked red and tired.

"How did you-"

"MAY!" I pushed the door open and I threw my arms around her petite figure. "I'm so happy I found you! You have no idea-"

"Jess, calm down!" She told me.

"Calm down? You disappeared for over THREE MONTHS! Do you know how many police are out there looking for you? Do you know how worried I've been? No, you don't! Because you don't CARE!"

"Jess! I wanted to get away, okay! I didn't think you'd care so much!"

"Didn't think I'd care so much? Really?" My eyes began to sting. "You know what, you don't care about anyone but yourself, and I don't know why I'm even here."

I stood up and opened the door but she called after me.

"Jess! Wait!"

I turned around. "You have no idea how much has happened to me over these past few months and all I wanted was to find you and talk like we used to! You were alway like my best friend and now...you're not worth my time anymore."

I walked away and slammed the door in her face.

...

I sat alone of Josh's couch, scrolling through my feed. All of my past friends were either engaged or hugely successful already. They all used to be so important to me and now...now they were all strangers living the life I wish I could live.

"Are you okay, Jess?" Josh asked as he sat down next to me.

"No! I feel like all of the people that used to mean so much to me, don't care about me at all. My dad just now mentions that I'm adopted and my own sister wants nothing to do with me. My birthmother just wants to get cash out of me, and my adopted mother never even MENTIONED the fact that I'm not actually hers. It's like, no one really cares anymore, or I guess, did they ever care."

He just sat there and listened to me with his arm around me. He never once looked uninterested and he never tried to make a move. He simply listened.

"I'm sorry, Josh."

"For what?"

"I'm always complaining about everyone in my life but the truth is, you've always been there for me. I don't deserve someone like that."

"Jess, I genuinely care about you, therefor, I don't care if you talk for hours about the problems you have. I honestly care about your feeling and part of this whole relationship thing, is the fact that we both have to listen to
each other ."

I grabbed him by the collar and pressed my lips into his.

"I love you so much, Joshy. I've never felt this way towards anyone in my entire life."

"Me too, Jess. Me too."

"You know what I'd really appreciate, right now?"

"Anything."

"I want to kiss you until my lips go numb with your arms around me all night."

"I can do that," Josh said while laughing.

I wrapped my arms around his neck a and pressed his against the couch seats so that I was hovering above him.

"I have no self control when I'm around you," he told me before grabbing the sides of my face and kissing me just like I had asked.
