After the show, the crowd began to file out of the doors and the entire crew ran to congratulate us. Even Maxwell.

"I just wanted to say that I knew from the start that you two belonged together," Maxwell stated. "And I'm happy for you both."

I smiled. "Thanks."

"You know, we're all going to go to my brother's penthouse as kind-of an after-party. If you two want to come on over, the first limo you see when you walk out the door will be heading there."

"You'll see us there," I told him and then I grabbed Josh's wrist and we went outside to get into the limousine.

...

The penthouse was the size of a hotel itself! You could see the colorful lights from outsized the frosted glass and you could hear the bass as well.

Once we got inside, we saw a table full of fine wines, champagnes, and beer. There was also a huge crystal chandelier hanging from the high-ceilings.

We spent the entire time drinking and listening to people go on-and-on about how perfect Josh's proposal was.

At about one 'o'clock, The limos left for the hotel and we had barely gotten inside our room before Josh had me against the wall.

He was obviously a little tipsy.

He then slammed the door closed and began to resume our earlier make-out session. Just as he began to unzip my dress, my phone went off.

I walked over to it and read the screen.

Incoming call
Dad

I clicked 'cancel' and I threw it to the ground.

"Who was it?" Josh asked.

"No one important."

I walked back over to him put my arms around his neck.

"Continue."

He smiled. "As you wish."

...

I woke up feeling super tired and gross.

This was the day I had to fly to Miami.

I let out a huge sigh and then slowly crawled out of bed. I threw on a T-shirt and shorts and I grabbed my phone to checked my messages.

Dad: Jess, I need to talk to you about something important. Please call me back!

My finger lingers over the call button before I gave in and called him.

"Jess?"

"Hey. What did you want to tell me?"

"Oh, Jess. I don't know how to say it, but... You're adoptive mother had a stroke last night. The doctors don't know how much longer she'll be here. Please come home."

I rubbed my temples and closed my eyes. "I don't know if I can. I need to fly out to Miami today for another live-show-"

"Jess! Please! She's you're family!"

I took a deep breath and looked over at Josh who was now awake.

"Okay, I'll fly out. I'm not going to be able to stay for very long though because I'll have to take a direct flight to Miami tomorrow morning to be in-time to learn the choreography for the show on Sunday."
