"Hey Percy." Finn said and made Percy jump in shock at the sound of his voice as he walked into the school building. Percy had just finished saying goodbye to Quinn at the car when he found the large, football playing giant waiting for him by the doors.
"Hey Finn, what's up?" He responded casually. He wasn't sure what the guy wanted since they had never spoken to each other before. Finn looked to have felt the same because he held his hand out politely and shook Percy's firmly when he grasped it.
"Not much. I just wanted to officially welcome you to the New Directions since I didn't get a chance to at practice yesterday. By the way, where were you?" He said as the two boys started to walk down the halls towards Percy's locker. Percy was caught off guard by Finn's sudden interrogation. While he knew he had an excusable reason, he found himself stumbling over his explanation.
"I-I got slushied pretty badly yesterday and I didn't have another change of clothes. Actually, my girlfriend surprised me with a visit too. She flew out from New York to see me."
Recognition seemed to grow in his eyes as an obvious lightbulb lit up above his head. "Oh, so that was the girl you kissed in the hallway yesterday." He nodded to something he was thinking about before turning to look at Percy again. "Anyways, welcome aboard."
"Thanks." Percy said as he turned away to open his locker. He expected Finn to walk away, but was even more surprised to see that the tall boy was still standing exactly where he had been when Percy had all but said goodbye. He turned to look in the direction Finn was staring and saw Brittany at her locker a little ways down the hall. It wasn't necessarily Brittany that drew their attention, it was more the boy she was talking to. It was obvious he was Irish, or at least dressed up as an Irishman. Percy couldn't help but think he looked like a comical leprechaun. They couldn't hear what was being said, but it was clear that he was flirting with Brittany and every advance was blowing right over the blonde's head.
When Brittany walked away, Finn seemed to come out of the trance he had fallen into. He smiled awkwardly at Percy before walking away in the opposite direction. Percy found it weird how detached he looked.
Later on in the day, he found Finn yet again just standing by himself staring off into the crowd. This time he appeared to be watching Santana and Mercedes as the two girls talked quietly to each other. Before Percy could approach him, Finn walked away and down the hall again.
Glee club was hectic to say the least. Between Kurt and Rachel's fight over class president, Finn and Blaine's awkward and unnecessary competition as leaders of the group, the musical being canceled due to budget, and the recent loss of Mercedes; the meeting was tense and not very fun to be a part of. Percy just sat in the back and watched the battle unfold before him.
He decided to close his eyes and just pretend that school was over already. He could stand to take a break.
