You hid shakily behind the boxes in the post office on level 10258. The spectres hissed and laughed throughout the room. You pulled your legs closely to your chest, hoping none of them would find you. Of course, all the elsen had left the building after having seen all the ghosties hanging around. You weren't an elsen, you weren't quite sure what you were actually, the only other being you'd seen out here in all the zones that had any resemblance to you were the elsen, but you weren't like them. You were different. You could sometimes even face the spectres, unlike the elsen who wouldn't even dare be within a 20-foot radius of one. That didn't mean you weren't scared out of your wits when you did, though. You listened to the monsters groan and snarl on the other side of the boxes and postcards, and in the middle of the crazy noises, you heard someone enter the room. 'Well, someone was crazy' you thought to yourself, 'Probably going to get themselves killed.' you thought sadly. You heard some more noises from the adversaries and some from the one who had entered. They didn't sound like an elsen, they didn't make the usual 'Hhh'. Those poor scared elsen... you looked next to you, blood splattered across the floor. You gasped loudly but covered your mouth quickly after. You looked up, panic vivid in your eyes as another ghost peered down at you. "Ah! Ah!" he blurted making a swift hit at you. You whimpered as you backed into more boxes. The spectre approached you but just before it got close enough to attack, a bat swung into it. Your eyes widened. And that's when you saw him. You couldn't do anything but stare, mouth dropped and hanging open as you watched him in disbelief. He was like you. He killed the spectre before turning and looking at you. He pointed his bat at you, blood drizzled from it just inches from your face. "Are you a spectre?" he tilted his head. You shook your head 'no' desperately. He pulled his bat away and hung it over his shoulder before directing his hand in your direction to help you up. You gladly took it. "Thanks for s-saving me," you muttered. "No thanks needed, you aren't a part of my mission, I just need to purify the world," he said, no emotion on his face. You just blinked a few times.
"Who are you?" you questioned him. "I'm The Batter," he responded looking back at you. "What, do you not have a name or...?" you just continued to look at him. "They call me The Batter, is that not enough for you?" he said sternly. "Fine with me. I'm (Y/n)!" you smiled cheerfully, you so desperately wanted to know him, but he just wouldn't cooperate. "Didn't need to know that." he turned to continue whatever it was he was doing. Purifying the world or something. A ring floated around behind him. "Hey!" you called, he stopped and looked at you,"What is that?" you pointed at the ring. "That's Alpha. It's my Add-on," he said strictly. He obviously was ready to get going and be done with you. You sighed. He turned and continued walking away. You watched him. He was walking toward a desk, he probably wanted to pass through the elevator but you needed a code. An elsen got up from under the desk. "Hhh, are the phantoms gone?" he asked, his voice cracked when he said phantoms. Batter nodded. "I must pass," he said to the elsen. "Well, that's....uh...impossible...unless you...have the code?" he asked. The Batter nodded once more, "681452" he responded. "The...the code, it...it is exactly correct...Ho-...How...?" the elsen muttered. "You...You must not pass! I don't want to die!" the boy cried before he exploded into a terrifying spectre of smoke. "Purification in progress..." The Batter whispered. You just curled up into a tight ball as you listened to the gruesome noises of the Batter and Alpha beating the adversary elsen. The room silenced and you looked up. "I'm going...to Alma..." the elsen whimpered. "It will be nice," he said with a bleak smile before the obstacles blocking the elevator came down, allowing the Batter to enter. Just before he stepped in you ran up and grabbed his hand. "Wait!" you yelped. "What?" he snapped, "you're holding up progress." you scowled. You looked at him sadly, not knowing what to do or say. You looked down at your hand wrapped around his before blushing. You looked back up at him, he looked mad but he was blushing too. Without thinking, you leaned forward and gave him a quick kiss. He jerked his hand away and watched you carefully, an upset look on his face. You just stared back.
After a moment of looking at each other, he pushed forward and kissed you again, passionately and deeply. His hands gripped your shoulders. After about five seconds he pulled away and let go of you. You glanced up at him in astonishment, blush evident on your cheeks. "Sorry," he said, obviously not meaning it. "No, no! I'm sorry!" you argued. He didn't deny it was your fault, he simply faced the elevator again. Right before stepping inside he turned his head to look at you. "Hence nothing remains but our regrets," he said clearly, totally calm and unphased about the recent events of what just happened. "Y-yeah." you agreed without thinking. Then he left. "Wow," you muttered to yourself, looking at the bloody mess around you.
