5 years later.
*Kayden's POV*
I wandered around the palace, not really watching what I was doing, and definitely not doing what I'm supposed to do. I didn't really feel like it either. I was too busy reliving what happened in New York a couple of years ago. I couldn't really do anything about that, it just happens every now and then. This time it was different though.
It's been exactly five years since we've heard his name. It wasn't until a week after the battle that he anounced himself as king. No one knows why to be honest. Maybe he didn't feel like it, who knows. All I know is that everyone was rather relieved to finally know the name of the person who caused so much pain, and death. Loki.
Who the hell gives his kid that name?We still don't know where he came from, and why he came to Earth. He never told us. Just a name. That's all we had to know apparently.
A day after the battle most of the survivors were taken to Loki. Some of them, like us, managed to stay hidden for a bit longer.
They found us three days after the battle. We ran out of food, so we decided to go outside to find some. Bad decision. Least we could have done was watch around that damned corner. But it doesn't really matter anymore now, does it?
They found us, killed Jenny because she fought back, and took the rest of us to Loki. 'Jenny.. tougher than we thought.' I smiled. She was fun to have around. The first day after the battle, she told us a bit more about herself.
She never finished school. Instead she started working at a bar owned by her uncle at 16 years old. That was 6 years before we met her. 22 years old, a future ahead of her. All of that was taken from her in the blink of an eye.
She loved movies like Grease, Footloose, Dirty Dancing, anything like those actually. She told us she just fell in love with the way teens treated each other back then, and what relationships were like in those years. It sounded a bit cheesy to Jason, but he didn't tell her. He didn't want to ruin her fun. She smiled all the time while telling us more about herself. It turned out Loki actually took the time to give everyone their own job.
Emily was sent to work in the kitchen of his palace. Did I mention that his palace once was Stark Tower by the way?
Jason and I were picked to become guards. It's not as exciting as it sounds, all we have to do is wander around the palace, and report anything suspicious. Occassionally someone thought he could go after Loki, and even though we'd root for them, silently, we had to do everything we could to make sure they were either captured or killed before they could make it to him.
We hated it, but if we didn't do it, Loki would randomly pick one of us, and kill him in front of the rest, just to show us he was in control. That was just the first two/two and a half years though. After that, the entire planet was his, or realm as he called it. Somehow it calmed him down, and he turned into a, well, nicer king. He stopped executing people, he'd let the guards dine in the same room, and made sure we had the best bedrooms in the palace. Well, not better than his of course.
Every now and then, he had to be a bit more harsh again. Some of the people out there still rebelled against his rule. He'd go there personally, with a small army. After a few days he'd come back with a handful of prisoners. No one knew where the Avengers were. The few that were left after the battle were all taken somewhere unknown. That means Hawkeye, Black Widow and the Hulk by the way. No one has any idea what happened to Iron Man after he flew through that strange portal with a nuke, or what happened to Captain America. Thor was last seen being hit by some sort of huge ass rainbow laser beam. Nobody has a clue what it was, although some scientist, Selvig, shouted something about a Bifrost. Whatever that may mean.
Once everything settled down a bit, he started to rebuild every city, or country in some cases, that he had destroyed when trying to conquer them. He made sure everyone had the possibility to learn, it didn't matter what you wanted to become. Doctor, truck driver, you name it.
He actually made the world a better place in the end. It took war, and bloodshed, but a big part of us is actually rather happy about everything he has done for us.
Maybe it wasn't that bad after all.Except for the fact that I still didn't have a clue where my mom was. I missed her, and in the first year of living in the palace I often had nightmares. I could hear her call my name in those nightmares, and sometimes I could see her, but as soon as I walked up to her, all I saw was her body. Dead.
I'd wake up crying and sweating. A piece of me still hopes she's alive, hoping she had a job somewhere in or around the palace. But I never ran into her. I've never given up on that hope either, and I never will, not until I have proof that she died. I refuse to accept that possibility."It would be wise to watch where you're going, instead of daydreaming."
I was laying on the ground, but got up as fast as I could when I recognised the voice of the man talking to me.
"I apologize my king, it won't happen again."
"Apologies accepted, and I do hope you will keep your promise. What is your name?" "Kayden." I stuttered. I didn't dare to look at Loki, I was too scared he would get angry at me if I did.
"Well Kayden, why don't you tell me what you were thinking about. And please, look at me when you do so"
'Shit.'
"I uh.. It's not that important my king." "Apparently it is important enough to not even notice my presence." Loki said. I guess he had a point there. Loki 1, Kayden 0.
"It's just.. Some memories of the past few years. Especially the first year after New York. I suppose it still hurts me every now and then, but it's not a big deal, really."
I looked up at Loki, he seemed interested in what I just told him. I've never been this close to him before, and it made me uncomfortable.
"Go on" "Well there's not that much left to say actually. That's all." I said."Is it? It seems as if something is eating you from the inside. And I feel like you are blaming me for that. Did you lose somebody in that first year?" He asked. "Honestly, I don't know. I don't know what happened to her. All I know is that I miss her." "Who is her?"
'Oh. Right. A bit more specific Kay' I thought to myself.
"I meant my mother. I haven't spoken to her since the day of the battle itself. I haven't even seen her since then either, or heard anything about her. It's just, I at least want to know if she died. Just to get closure you know."
I started staring at my shoes again. Loki stayed quiet for a while, but I could feel him staring at me.
Before I realized what happened, I felt a hand, a rather cold hand actually, underneath my chin, lifting my head so I was looking at him again.
"What's your mother's name? I will ask the head of the maids if she knows anything about your mother. You are right, you should at least get closure, if that is the case."
I looked at him, surprised, but at the same time I was grateful that he didn't laugh at me for everything I just told him.
"Jocelyn Smith. Thank you, my king"
"Please, call me Loki. I get called king by more than enough people." He smiled, not the biggest smile, but it's a rare thing to ever see him do that.
"Thank you.. Loki." I could feel my cheeks turning red. 'shit shit shit. What the heck Kayden.'
"There is no need to get shy. Come, lets walk for a bit. I would like to know a bit more about your mother first of all, and after that, about you. If that is alright with you?"
"Uh, yeah, that's okay. Where do you want to go then?" I asked him.
"I would like to show you the garden, and then the horses, since I was heading there in the first place." "Alright, I don't know the way though so I'll just follow you." He grinned, and nodded afterwards. "Very well, this way Kayden." He started walking to the stairs, and I followed, unsure of how I was supposed to feel about this.(A/N) oh god I am so sorry about not writing for ages. I'll make up to y'all, my school is done now, so it's just work that I got left.
Please forgive me ;-;
