*Kayden's POV*
Once we both finished breakfast, Loki got up and walked over, grabbing my hand again. I got up as well, and we walked out, towards the garden once again. It took me a couple of minutes to figure out what I wanted to say, and I think Loki knew all the time that I wanted to tell him something, but simply couldn't find the right words. "Loki.. That nightmare from tonight, it was the same one as in the first year here. The one about my mother. I can hear her call my name, but when I walk towards her, all I see is her body. She's dead. That's why I cried." I told him. I hoped I didn't make it sound like I blamed him for my nightmares, but I could see that it did bother him. "I talked to the maids yesterday. I meant to tell you sooner but you seemed so happy and I didn't want to spoil that." He looked sad, and took a deep breath before he continued. "They know your mother, but she's been sick for a few weeks already, and they can't seem to figure out what it is. They're taking her to a hospital today, because she feels even worse than she did a couple of days ago. If we hurry, we can go there now."
I could feel myself getting angry at him. "You've known this since yesterday, and you just didn't say anything? Loki, I don't care how happy I seemed, it's my damned mother we're talking about." Loki didn't even say anything after that, he just stared at the ground like a little kid that just got yelled at, even though I basically whispered the entire thing. It's pretty much what I do when I get angry at someone, I never yell, I whisper. "Where is she Loki?" "This way."
We walked for what felt like hours, but in reality it probably wasn't any longer than ten minutes. We got to a private room, in a part of the palace that I've never seen before. "Are you sure about this?" Loki asked. I felt like throwing up, and my heart was racing. What if she doesn't even recognize me anymore? Could that happen? Was it possible that my own mother had forgotten what I looked like? I pushed the thoughts away and nodded, trying not to cry. Loki opened the door, and there she was, lying on a bed near the window, looking thinner and paler than she ever did before. She slowly turned her head to see who came in, and as soon as she saw me, her entire body started to shake and all she could do was cry. I nearly ran towards her and held her, carefully, because I felt like I might break her if I wasn't.
After a while we both calmed down and we just looked at each other, not really aware of what was happening. "Not a day went by that I didn't think about you Kayden, that I didn't miss you. I thought you had died, and now it turns out that we've both lived here for years without even knowing it." I could feel the tears coming back again, and no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't hold them back. Mom just held me, crying again as well, and we sat there together for hours, talking about what happened to us in the past few years. All that time, Loki just stood there at the door, as if he wasn't really sure what he was supposed to do know. Eventually some woman came in, telling us that she had to take my mother to the hospital so the doctors could check what was wrong. I looked at Loki, and he knew what I wanted to ask. "We're coming with you." he said to the woman. She looked at him, confused, but then bowed. I could never get used to that, and now that I've spent so much time with him over the past few days, it was an even stranger thing to see.
They helped my mother into a wheelchair, and gosh, I felt so awful when I noticed how weak she really was. Loki noticed, and he grabbed my hand, gently squeezing it to let me know he's there. I threw myself into his arms, suddenly overwhelmed with emotions, and he just held me. Even though my mother was terribly sick, she hadn't lost her sense of humour. Her voice cracked when she said it, but for a short moment, it felt like everything was back to normal again. "I think I've missed something while being away." I started laughing through my tears, and so did she. They took her out of the room, and we followed. While walking towards an actual car that they were allowed to use for these kind of things, Loki and I told her about the last few days. By the time we got to the car, we were finished.
"I just want to know one thing, and I don't intend on being rude. Is this a serious thing?" She asked Loki. He looked a bit confused by her question, but smiled at her. "I think I might be falling in love with your son." I froze for a second, because I expected everything but this answer. My mother looked at us for a second, but started to smile as well. "Well.. If that's the truth, then you have my blessings."
*Loki's POV*
I couldn't really believe what I just heard. Kayden's mother, who hasn't seen her son in 5 years thanks to me, approves that we are pretty much dating. I looked at her in disbelief, and tried to thank her a few times, but it took some time for the words to come out. "Don't thank me. Thank you for re-uniting me with my son. I couldn't ask for more." Kayden hugged her once more, and helped her into the car. We joined her on the backseat, Kayden and I constantly holding hands, and his mother constantly smiling every time she looked at us from the corner of her eye. The ride to the hospital was silent. Not an awkward silence, but one filled with both happiness and fear. Happiness, because they finally saw each other after such a long time, and fear, because none of us knew how long it would last.
Once we arrived at the hospital, Jocelyn, who insisted that I'd call her by her name, was rushed away by the doctors for examining. While waiting, I held Kayden, because I knew that he was afraid that there was something massively wrong. After a very, very long time, one of the doctors came back to tell us that they'd have the results of all the tests in two days. He also told us that they wanted to keep his mother here just in case she got worse. I could feel Kayden tense up, most likely angry with the fact that they took his mother from him. It may not be for forever, but I could actually understand why he felt that way. He asked if he could spend the night here, but the doctor refused, apparently they don't have enough room for that.
I could feel myself getting angry at the man, and Kayden squeezed my hand to tell me it was okay. "Can I at least say goodbye and come back tomorrow?" he asked. "Of course. Might be good to know that visiting hours are between 9 am and 1 pm, and from 2.30 pm till 8 pm. So you'll have plenty of time with your mother tomorrow." The doctor gave us a weak smile, and I dreaded the results of the tests already. He showed us the way to Jocelyn's room, and as soon as we entered, Kayden immediately sat down next to her on the bed. She was asleep, so he did it carefully, trying his best not to wake her, and succeeded at that. "She looks a lot calmer now to be honest." he said, and I could see his eyes tearing up again. I grabbed a chair, and sat down at the other side of the bed. "Well. Lets try not to wake her then. Maybe she'll feel a bit better after some sleep too. It has been quite a crazy day for her, don't you think?" I said. He nodded, and wiped away the silent tears that were starting to fall. "I'm just really scared of losing her. She's the last bit of family I've got left Loki." "I know. But lets not jump to conclusions before we get the results, deal?" "Deal."
I could tell he didn't really mean it, but he also knew that I was right. Maybe it wasn't that bad after all. Maybe it would all be okay soon. He wanted to believe it, and so did I, but we both shared the fear of things being as wrong as they could be.
(A/N) Sooooo. He got his mom back.. But will she be alright? Who knows...... Oh wait. I do. hehe. But soon enough all of you will know what happens as well. And I have a feeling that it might be a veeeeeeeery looooooooooong chapter too. Also, I intend on ending this story somewhere around chapter 30, so it'll be around for sometime, but we'll see. That's just an idea I have right now, but maybe I'll write some more chapters if you guys want me to.
