*Loki's POV*
I walked towards the garden, followed by Kayden. I had no idea why I was acting the way I did, but something about the guy was interesting to me.
"So... Is it a lot further? Not that I'm lazy or anything but I'm just not such a big fan of walking.."
"Fan? What's the thing with you mortals and that word?" I said. 'I will never understand that word' I thought to myself.
"Uh I guess it kinda means that you're into something. Like a film, or a sport. You're a fanatic." Kayden explained.
"So you mean you simply do not like to walk?" I asked. "Well. Yes. That's basically what I meant."
I could hear from the way he answered that he regretted talking to me. I wondered why, I felt like I somehow manage to show genuine interest in him.
"Listen Kayden. I am not used to the way you humans speak and I do not think I ever will be, but the fact that I am asking you what it meant.. It was actual interest. I am sorry if you feel like it was not." I said. I looked at Kayden, who had stopped walking. I didn't realize why, but soon enough I noticed that he was staring at the garden."Do you like it?" I asked him. I walked towards him, and turned to look at the garden with him.
*Kayden's POV*
I couldn't believe my eyes. The garden was filled with hundreds of flowers, and there had to be at least the same amount of different sorts. Thanks to the sunset, everything had some kind of golden glow, which made it even more spectacular.
"Like it? I love it! I can't believe I've never seen this before." I told Loki. "Well, guards normally aren't allowed to be here, so I'd be surprised if you had seen it." I could hear a bit of sarcasm in his voice, but it was a joking sarcasm. I laughed a little, and I could feel myself become more comfortable in Loki's presence. "Guess you got a point there."After taking a little walk through the garden, Loki asked me if I was ready to go to the horses. I suddenly enjoyed walking a lot more now that we had to walk through almost the entire garden to even get to the horses.
After a few minutes, I decided to break the silence.
"So.. What did you want to know about my mother? Besides her name I mean."
"Well, on the practical part, her age, her appearance, anything that could make it easier to find her. But I would also love to hear a bit about what she was like, if you do not mind." He looked at me with a look that I would almost call hopeful, but I'm probably wrong. I told him that she would be 44 by now, and that the last time I saw her she had brown hair, blue eyes, and that she was just a bit taller than I was. I laughed at that bit, causing Loki to give me a strange look. "I'm sorry, it's just that I remember how she used to tease me about it, the fact that I was literally a few centimetres smaller than she was." I couldn't help but smiling, but at the same time, I could feel myself get sad about still not knowing what happened to her.
'Jeez.. Stop thinking like this Kayden. At least he wants to help you find her.' I thought to myself. After that I told him a bit more about when I was younger, about my dad dying when I was only 6 and how my mom struggled to take care of me and deal with her grief at the same time.
I could tell it saddened him to hear about that, so I changed the subject to the happier things, all the trips we went on, the random picnics we'd have. After a while I ran out of things to tell him.
"So.. That's about it I guess.." "She sounds like an amazing mother to me." He smiled at me, and I could see that he was starting to get a bit more comfortable as well by now."So, here we are." He said out of the blue. I hadn't realized that we were at the horses already, so I got confused at first. There were 4 in total, which I didn't understand, since I assumed Loki would be the only one to ever ride them.
Two of them were a lot alike, almost entirely black, except for a white spot on their heads. The only way to tell them from one another was the little white mark one had just above his leg. The other two were completely different. One of them was completely white, with a few brown spots. I could imagine it being hell to keep him clean.
The last horse was light brown, except for his feet, which were white, as if he was wearing socks.
As soon as the horses noticed Loki, they headed in our direction. He started petting them and hugging them, and I couldn't really help but laugh.
"If you think it is so funny, why don't you go and get some food for them? If you want?"
I nodded and walked to the little shack he pointed at. When I got back I noticed that he had saddled up two of the horses.
"There we go. So how are we going to feed them by the way? I don't see anything to put the food in.." "Well by hand of course."It took a while before I was really relaxed around them, but the horses were really calm and didn't bite my hand like the horse that I fed when I was about 9 years old. A few minutes passed, and the bucket of food was empty.
Before I realized what was happening, Loki lifted me up and put me on one of the horses, the brown one.
"Shit Loki, what are you doing?!" I almost yelled at him. "Well I figured that now we are here anyways, we might as well go for a little ride." He said.He mounted the other horse, which was the black one with the little white mark, and made it turn so he was facing the gate. "Have you never done this before?" He asked. "No.. We didn't really had the money and the fact that I've never really liked horses enough to ride them didn't help much either."
He opened the gate, and walked through it.
"It is not that hard, and I have given you the most calm and easy horse that I own. She will most likely just follow me." He told me. It didn't make me all confident just like that, but it did calm me down a bit. "Okay.. Just don't go too fast. Can you promise me that?" "I promise, you will be fine."After a while of just slowly riding the horses, he quickened the pace a bit, but not too much for me to get scared.
We stayed away for about half an hour, but returned when I started complaining about my butt hurting. He laughed at me for a bit, but quickly stopped laughing when he realized I was giving him an 'I will kill you' look.
When we returned he got off his horse pretty smoothly. 'How hard could it be?' I thought. I tried to get off of my horse as well, but failed, causing me to fall down.
Loki immediately asked me if I was okay, but I just started laughing at my own stupidity. "Why are you laughing?" "Oh I don't know, all I know now is that horse riding is just not my thing. Or at least not yet." I said. He helped me back up, and I dusted myself off. "Shall we head back? It is almost time for dinner." Loki said. I agreed, and we started walking back to the palace in silence.
I didn't really mind the silence, it gave me some time to process today's events, and I was convinced that Loki was doing the exact same thing. We got back to the palace within no time, and headed straight to the dining room. Right before we entered, I stopped Loki. "Something wrong?" He asked.
"No no, not at all. It's just.. I wanted to thank you for today. I really enjoyed it. And again, thank you for offering to try to find my mother." I said. He looked at me for a bit, as if he was trying to find out whether I was genuine or not. "You are welcome. And I found it rather fun as well today. I hope you would like to do it again sometime?"
I could feel myself get red again, and cursed myself for blushing so easily. "I uh, I would love to Loki. Really."
He smiled, and gestured me to enter the room. We sat down close to each other, so we could talk a bit more, causing some of the other guards to look and whisper, but we simply ignored them.
It has been quite a strange day, but I'd love to have a million more of these days..(A/N) yay another update :D I hope you guys liked it. I'll try to do another chapter tomorrow 'cause it'll be a bit difficult to do one this weekend. But we'll see what I can do!
