But he wouldn't know would he? If I chopped and edited my story so it was suitable for his hearing. Just try not to look too comfortable I cautioned myself because I could already feel the worry lines starting to smooth out of my face, I couldn't arous more digging by Adeptus into my story.
"Earlier today there was a visit from guy who told me about my maker." ...
"Didn't he Daren." I added hoping for reliance for my story from him.
It took all my might not to shoot Daren a sideways glance to explain; to explain that we couldn't fully explain what had happened. If vampires can pray thats what I did right then. Not to God. Or to anyone in particular just a general please make him understand it to whoever might have been listening.
In reality I know it was only seconds though it felt like a whole lot longer as I waited for Daren to speak. To hopefully back my story.
"Yes he did." Were the only words that slipped from his mouth. And wasn't I relieved. I hadn't been wanting a long trailing assurance since that would have been complicated and with one bearly noticable flick of his finger Adeptus would have unravelled it. Short was good. Short but confident sounding. No meat left for Adeptus to pick clean.
Standing there forcing my body relax a fraction from my ready for another advance pose into a more casual pose, watching the man infront of me, trying hard not to watch the man beside me and completely oblivious to the gradual lowering of the sun which was decreasing with our head start on Nathaniel I wondered for the first time what had become of the people who had previousley fled when the confrontation started between me and Adeptus.
They were probably now crouching in their little houses with the front doors bolted. Prayer book in hand hoping the Lord would save them, hope most probably wasted.
Because this man... creature or whatever he was that was apparently ready to adress us again would need more than crazed fear to stop him.
"And the name of this man?" After a moments pause.
"The one who spoke to you." As if we were so mentally undeveloped we needed this explaining to us. I had been hoping he wouldn't ask this but since he had I was going to have to suddenly develope a selective memorie.
"I don't remember. Do you Daren?" This was the first time I allowed myself to look at him. Without altering my experssion too much so as not to reveal anything I tried to convey my tacktic to Daren.
Evidently he had understood since another snappy sentence flew from between his cracked open lips.
"No I can't recall it."
