Tainted Love

Chapter 18

We arrived at school finally and I just stared at the now terrifying school. Shun glanced at me, worried I might run off somewhere. "Kei?"

I looked ahead of me for a second before I turned to Shun. "I'm fine." He took my hand in his, squeezed it tightly, then let go and gave me a reassuring smile. A smile that made me realize everything would be okay.

"Keiii!" Sunddenly, Minami's high pitched cry echoed through the school grounds as she tightly wrapped her arms around my neck. "What happened yesterday? You promised to come eat lunch with me after school." Here eyes stared straight through me as I did my best to think of something.

"I wasn't feeling well yesterday. Sorry. I would've informed you but I lost my phone." I pat her on the head and gave her the best fake smile I could. She seemed to have taken the bait but it also didn't clear her suspicion.

Out of the corner of my eye, I noticed Shun was staring at me. He was worried. I didn't know how I knew that but somehow, I could just feel it. I waved my hand to show him I was okay but his gaze never left me.

"Minami." Akino suddenly came out of nowhere and dragged Minami off my arm. "We have to help the eacher today, remember. let's go." She started dragging the resisting girl away and I couldn't help but giggle a little.

I could still feel Shun's eyes on me so I walked over to him. "You okay?" I asked before looking him in the eye. "I'm fine. It's just, I was careless to let you out of my sights so I'm not making that mistake again." I sighed. "Shun, you can't watch me the entire day. We only have two classes together. Besides, I'll have Minami and Akino around. I'll be fne."I stared him straight in the eye while trying to make sure my nervousness didn't overcome me.

After a few moments of silence, he cast his eyes down and ndded slightly. "I have math first period so I have to get going."

"I'll walk you to your class." He mumbled lowly and I could tell he was dissatisfied. The walk to the classroom felt like forever since neither of us said a word to one another. He's definitely pouting. I stared straight ahead as the frown never left my face.

Once Shun left, I relaxed my mucles and sat in my assigned seat. I didn't know how to make him smile. Since he always hid his sadness, there was no way I knew how to cheer him up.

**flashback**

"Shun? Are you alright? I heard you got into a fight with your dad again." Sun glanced at me for a second before a huge grin spread across his face. "I'm fine. It happens all the time with that old geezer."

"You shouldn't call your dad an old geezer, besides it's freezing and here you are locked outside."

"Kei, I'm fine okay. I can solve this on my own. I don't need you to worry about me." Shun stood up and walked past me, heading straight for the old playground. I turned in that direction wishing I could do something but after realizing that I couldn't, I gave up. I couldn't help Shun the way he helped me. He never wanted help.

I woke up the next morning and before I actually came to my senses, I could feel arms wrapped around me making me almost scream as my breath caught in my throat. I blinked a couple of time before I could finally see his face. 'Why is Shun in my bed hugging me?' I was able to sit up with his arms tightly wrapped around my waist.

"Shun, wake up. C'mon." I started shaking him but he refused to open his eyes. "Shun." I said a bit louder making him stir a bit. He sat up slowly, still in a daze about what was happening. "What are you doing here? How did you even get in?"

"Huh? Oh Hana let me in after I came over to see you only to find out you had already fallen asleep." He yawned slightly. "I was tired and couldn't resist the urge to sleep so I ended up crawling in your bed and sleeping."

I stared at him in disbelief for a minute. "Didn't your parents unlock the door?"

"Hm, nope. Must have forgotten that they threw me outside."

"You need to go home. What if they're worried?"

"Like that old geezer would be worried about me." 'Ugh, I hate it when he refuses to leave and actually let his parents know where he is.'

Somehow I knew he was upset but there was absolutely nothing I could do if he wouldn't tell me about it. I tried to get him to talk many times but he would either ignore me or tell me to let it go and that he didn't want to talk about it.

**flashback over**

Nothings changed from then. No matter what happened, he would never tell me if he was feeling down. And somehow...that really hurt.

"Kei, look! Akino and I made it. Do you like it?" Minami's voice inturrupted my thoughts as she shoved a drawing into my face. "It's great." I replied shortly since I didn't know what else to say. Minami smiled widely as she ran back to Akino to tell her my reply.

I glanced out the window and saw the PE class jogging around the parking lot. I could see Shun ahead of the rest of the class as always. I stared out the window for a while until I felt a very persistent person poking my shoulder. My eyes went straight to the person before I got up to walk away.

He grabbed my shoulder and said in a low tone, "I haven't even started talking yet and your trying to walk away?" He pushed me back into my seat and stood in the only place I could escape. "What do you want?" I sighed in annoyance.

"To see if you were still alive." I glared at him from where I was sitting. "Well sorry to say but I still am."

He stared at me before walking away. "See you later, pretty boy." He said in a tone that showed no emothing. 'Pretty boy? Can he not make up weird nicknames for me?' I noticed someone staring and looked over towards the door. "Do you need something?"

"Not really. Just interested in what you and Rhyu were talking about." A grin appeared on his face as he stared down at me. "It was nothing. Can't you leave me alone for at least a day Adam?"

"But that's not fun. I need to tease you at least once just to make the day not so boring."

"Then go bother somebody else." He started protesting but I blocked him out as I entered my mind again. My thoughts always bouncing straight back to Shun. In a few months...we won't be able to see each other and that makes me really, really sad.

You always give me courage to write even though my writing is nowhere near being as good as yours. You are my best friend and cousin. No one could replace you and give me strength like you do.
