CHAPTER 1 ~ Boy Trouble

Wyatt Kingston

He smiled showing his perfect white teeth, the way it contrasted his silky, black hair, as he lead me across a bridge running across a freshwater river. I couldn't see his eyes because I was half way blinded by the sun rays that were hitting me in the face, but I had seen this boy's face enough times to know that his eyes were stormy grey, that held the memories that we've shared since childhood. I couldn't hear a thing, instead I could only see, and what I saw was beautiful: a rainforest filled with tons of exotic plants and trees, as well as the white waters that were rushing through the rocks as it filled the ground beneath us, and the way the sun filled the entirety of the rainforest was breathtaking, and the only thing that could match the beauty of my surroundings, was the boy in front of me.

I let him hold my hand as we walked across the bridge, happiness and content filled my whole body. I thought nothing could ruin this filling, that was until the boy spoke to me. "Wyatt," he said. "I love you."

I looked down, not feeling the same way. I was extremely close to this boy, sure but I didn't love him, not in that way. The boy frowned, probably because he thought he upset me, so to make up for his mistake, and called my name and held my chin up. He started to joke around and recall enjoyable times that we had together, while walking to he edge of the bridge.

"Hey Wyatt. Remember when we joined that gymnastics camp. I still know some of the moves." He placed his hands over his head and turned to his side as he performed a front flip.

"You shouldn't be doing that," I called to him.

"Nonsense," he shouted as he started to do backflip after backflip until he reached the rail of the bridge. Loosing his balance, he shouted as he plummeted into the river. I ran to the rail, only to catch the sight of the boy falling and hitting his head against the rock below.

Just as his head hit the rock...

I woke from my dream, screaming, just in time to hear my alarm clock go off. I sighed, realizing that the events that took place in my mind were just another dream, or more so, a nightmare.

My mom rushed into the room, alarm and worry written all over her face, but she stopped as soon as she saw me. "Another bad dream about him?" she asked.

I nodded my head yes before hanging it low.

My mom opened the door fully and let herself in, placing her delegate frame onto my bed, and hugged me. "Wyatt, baby, I know it's hard to let go, but he's gone now. There's nothing we can do about that."

I sniffed before nodding my head.

"Now get ready for school. You don't want to miss your first day," she said before gently hitting me on my thigh.

As soon as she was out of the room, I looked over to my bedside table, that held a picture of the boy from my dream and I, held tightly in a white frame with blue clouds. "What's the point of going to school?" I asked staring at the room door.

I decided now would be the best time to get up from my bed, seeing as the time was 7:00, giving me 30 minutes to get dressed. I dragged my feet across the floor until I reached my walk-in closet, becoming submerged with all the clothing. After I had decided on a plain dark blue t-shirt, accompanying a plaid blue shirt, that I decided to leave unbuttoned, dark blue skinny jeans, long grey socks, and my black vans, I walked out of the closet, begrudgingly towards my mirror, and checked myself out. To finish my look, I grabbed my styling gem, and fixed my blond hair into a short spiky mohawk. I signed at myself. Who still wears a mohawk? I huffed before turning around, to come face-to-face with my best friend, Amanda.
