Michael’s P.O.V:
It’s 8:35 a.m. and I’m at Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport at the moment, with my best friends from England, Jacob and Lauren. Surprise! Yes, I’m coming back home, and no I didn’t tell anyone from my pack-including my parents- that I’m here. My mom has consistently called me almost every day to make sure that I won’t bail out on her. I understand why she’s done that but it annoys me no less. So here I am, getting my suitcases in the trunk of the taxi.
I tell the taxi driver the address of my pack house, and we’re about 45 minutes away. Looking outside the car’s windows, I see a lot of things have changed since I left. There are more buildings and more streets to connect them. Things change, people change. I close my eyes for a moment, wondering how my pack is doing. My dad must be tired from all the work, but there are other people around that always there to support him. I wonder how is Alex, Joey, and Ariel doing; they’re like brothers and sister to me. We are best friend ever since diaper, for we were born the same year. I laugh quietly at some childhood memories we shared. Well, can’t wait to see them again.
Behind my seat is the womanizer Jacob, he’s a werewolf in Alpha John’s pack. He’s handsome that’s for sure, but underneath that, he’s a great guy. He’s helped me a lot when I just came to England-he also saved my life- so we’ve become really close over the years. He has my back as I have his. Sitting beside him is my other best friend Lauren, also from the same pack as Jacob. She’s a pretty she-wolf, charming and funny. We’ve work together on a numbers of projects, so we’ve become closed. But not that close anymore, because there was one time we accidently had sex together, deal to the alcohol we both had at the party. So when we woke up next to each other naked, we realized that it was a mistake for both of us, and we agreed to forget about the whole thing as it never happened. Sure she is good-looking and all, but I see her only as a friend and nothing more.
The taxi comes to stop; I pay the driver and take our stuff from the car. I walk with Jacob and Lauren to the large door of the pack house. As if sensing someone outside, my mom opens the door; she stares as me for a moment.
“OMG Michael! Why didn’t you tell me that you come home today?” she asks surprisingly and pulls me for a hug. I’ve miss her a lot. She hasn’t changed much, still beautiful as she always is.
I scratch the back of my neck and answer, “Hi mom! I know I should have told you but I just want to surprise you.” I’m grinning at her.
I turn and introduce my friends to her.
“Mom, this is Jacob and Lauren. They’re my friends from Alpha John’s pack. They will stay here for a few months, and if they like, they will ask dad for permission to join us.”
“Nice to meet you guys, I’m Michael’s mom, aka Luna Anderson of this pack. I will introduce you both to our Alpha, my mate, later on today. Please make yourself at home as you will be staying here for a while.”
Jacob and Lauren both say thank you and we all follow my mom.
She walks us inside and settles my friends in the guest rooms and me in my old room. I take my friend down to the kitchen to get something to drink. I see Anna is baking some turnovers, and the smell is watering.
“Hi Anna! Long time no see.” I call her.
She turns to face me and quickly hugs me. “My boy Michael has all grown up now. Look at you, so handsome.”
Her complement makes my face hits up a little; it’s been a while since anyone compliments me.
After a few hours settling in, I ask Anna where are Alex, Joey, and Ariel. She says Ariel is at the sushi bar right now; Alex and Joey are buying some supplies and on their way to the bar. I quickly say goodbye and head to Anna’s restaurant; I really want to see my best friends.
Even though I’ve been away for few years, I still remember my way there. Some streets look different, but other than that, they’re about the same as before.
I park my car in the front lot, there’re only one car there; it must be Ariel’s. Guess it’s not busy today. The restaurant doesn’t change much, only a few new touches here and there. I push the door open and walk in; the bells ring as I do so. Suddenly out of nowhere, something flies right into my face and covers me from head to toes. Being a werewolf and also having Alpha blood in me, I have a really good reflex. But this attack takes me by surprise so I don’t have time to dodge it, leaves me completely shocked, bombed, and the only thing I can sense is sushi mixed with wasabi plus soy sauce.
As I’m standing there, still paralyzed, I hear the bells ring again. I look through the messy mixture, and see Alex and Joey are walking in. I catch the sound of some girls cussing. Training my eyes a little more, I spot out Ariel-who I recognize right away, standing next to the blurry figure of a girl. Both of the girls quickly get over the bar and run toward me.
“We’re so sorry; we thought you were Alex and Joey, those guys over there.” Ariel apologizes. Even I’ve been far away, I still can identify her voice through the mess.
She uses a towel and wipes the stuff off my face. I have to close my eyes for her to do the work. I’m going to smell like sushi for a while, my wolf growls at that, but then he suddenly purrs as I feel the other girl’s fingers touch my shirt.
That’s crazy, my wolf doesn’t purr – he growls, howls, snarls, bites but definitely not purrs. I feel little tingling on my arms where her fingers lightly brush over my skin. This is weird.
“Omg! Michael! What are you doing here! Omg! We are so sorry, we thought you were Alex and Joey so we attacked you. ” Ariel’s almost screaming as she recognizes me, but amused at the same time, probably ‘cause the messy texture still clings on me.
My eyes open and they land on the girl who was quiet the whole time. When she looks at me, it’s like everything else disappears, all I can see is this gorgeous girl, with those beautiful brown eyes stares at me. All I can utter is “Mate!”
No way, how can that happen? I already had a mate, or an ex-mate, the one that cheated on me and broke my heart ever since. This is crazy and insane.
Without thinking, I shout out, “No! This can’t be! I don’t want a mate.”
The girl’s face suddenly goes pale then she turns around and runs out the bar.
Ariel looks at me straight in the eyes and threatens me, “If anything happen to her, I swear I will make your life hell.” Then she takes off and follows after the other girl.
Alex and Joey walk over; Joey speaks first, “Dude! What the hell just happened?”
Alex warns me, “Bro! I know that we are best friends and all, but if you hurt Lizzy, we won’t forgive you.”
What the hell? And what’s going on here. I’m so confused. I don’t understand, I thought there’s only one mate in a life time. I have to talk to my dad about this whole thing, and I have to do it now.
