"Eli..." I breathe, too shocked to do anything but stare. He looked so mature, way taller than my 5' 4" and although I look athletic, he's so muscular that I look like a primary school kid in comparison.
His back is to me, standing at the edge of one of the many overhangs that stand over the 300 foot drop down to the sea below. There are tonnes of those overhangs, usually filled with tourists doing the 'walk of the skies'- some supposed old religious pilgrimage but now it's just a pavement lined by a fence one one side and cherry blossom trees which stand tall- obscuring the view of the town.
I know it's him. He's standing in our spot, the only overhang that is hidden slightly so isn't usually found by people. But here he is, face turned towards the sun, surrounded by blossom falling like paper snow.
My heart is beating so fast- Grey, get a hold of yourself!
I should go over there and talk to him... right? But what would I say? Hey there Eli, we used to be friends and oh, by the way, I love you. Yeah, no.
So, like the coward I am, I hide behind one of the blossom trees and watch him. I know it sounds creepy and all but I don't know... it felt like my heart was in my throat, and I couldn't do anything but hide.
Eventually, I remember that I actually had to be somewhere and I crossed the street, leaving the 'walk of the skies' path and Eli behind.
