Ugh. My very first day and I come home with a black eye, an empty wallet and a massive head-ache. Great start. Real great start.

"Grey? Is that you?" Mum calls from the study. I go in but she doesn't turn away from the computer screen.

"Yeah?"

"Simon's parents are coming for dinner tonight, try not to be a nuisance."

I pretend that her words don't sting, I should be used to it by now... "Okay."

I can hear my brother's music floating down the stairs. Actually, I shouldnt really say floating- more like pounding. I follow it up to his room, now in a really bad mood. I shove the door open. He looks at me from his bed,

"Turn down your shitty muic." I glare at him.

He sits up, "Bloody hell, what happened to your face?" Finn looks a lot like Simon and mum, he's got Simon's black hair and mum's blue eyes. He's a year older than me, tonnes of friends, in every sports club, top of every class. Y'know- the typical amazing older brother, crappy younger brother scenario.

"Nothing." I snap. "It was an accident anyway, I just got in the way of an argument."

He doesn't look like he completely believes me, even though I'm not actually lying. I just have this amazing talent at being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
"So that school's really as bad as everyone says it is?" His worried look makes me a little less mad.

"No... it's alright actually. I mean, there's an art department so I'll be fine." I smile. I don't tell him that I had my money stolen. Or about the weird things that guy said. I start walking out but I suddenly remember something,

"Have you- and this might sound like I've gone mental- but have you by any chance seen Eli around?"

"Eli? As in the kid you're were like in love with?"

I narrow my eyes and he takes that as a yes,
"No, why?"

"I just thought I saw him" thought I saw him as in spent a good 20 minutes staring at him this morning, "on the way to school."

He shrugs, losing interest in the conversation. "Did mum tell you that Dad's parents are coming round later?"

"They probably won't be in a good mood, Gran hasn't been feeling very well and Grandpa's worried about her-"

"Jesus, Finn, you don't need to make excuses for them. I know they hate me, I'm not a kid anymore."

I go to my room, throwing myself face down on the bed. I know Finn was just trying to be nice but sometimes I really wish my family would stop treating me like I'm brain-dead.

My phone buzzes in my pocket. I look at who it is- just a number. I shrug and hit answer,

"Hello?"

"Hi." a guy's voice. Someone I recognise. I sit up, heart thumping,

"Eli?"
